The old cliche in New Jersey is that Broduer always bounces back after a bad game. Hasn't happened yet this season, but go ahead, Canada, give him a chance to redeem himself.
This is nice. For once I'm not pissed off after Marty had a bad game.

Don't forget about the Spofiwiki, which has a list of sports related books. I myself just started reading Ken Dryden's The Game. I'm only on page 82 but am loving it so far. As a Devils fan, it's pretty cool reading stories about Jaques Lemaire, Mario Tremblay, and Larry (Big Bird) Robinson when they were players. Not to mention the idiosyncrasies of Scotty Bowman.

Lou Lamoriello's statement. We will honor the league's suspension, have not considered, and will not explore other avenues for his return this season.

To be fair, Shonn Greene was injured on the first play of the second half and didn't return.
Yeah, that injury was the one that probably hurt the most. That pretty much killed the running game.
I hope the Jets can stay this good for next year. Anyone important likely to jump ship?
From what I understand, all of the key players are locked up for next year. But I guess there's always the possibility of someone not showing up for training camp hoping to renegotiate a better deal. No names come to mind of who would though.
I keep hearing/reading about how us Jets fans should be excited for next season, but I worry about a sophmore slump for Sanchez. Or is that just a hockey thing?

If we were taking a Sportsfilter vote, I would be on the Vikings side. It could take as little as 48 seconds to score three touchdowns so I'm not against adding some insurance points. And yes, the Cowboys are professionals not little leaguers. Add in the risk of injury and (as rcade mentioned) an unhappy Brett Favre for getting benched, I don't see any classlessness on the part of Minnesota. Well, that was until I read the link, and it only took until the third sentence:
"Probably the most fatigued I got today was celebrating," Favre said, smiling.
I still don't have a problem with the Vikings play calling or personnel desicions in a playoff game it seems they have already won, but I'll be rooting for the Saints on Sunday.

Sounds like Burrows violated some sort of unwritten hockey player rule in making these allegations public.
Judging by the way the Versus crew (all retired players) reacted to this story, I would say that is a correct statement. I thought for sure that at least one of them would rip Auger, but the worst any of them did was call one of the minor penalties he called on Burrows "questionable". According to them, Burrows was supposed to take it to his GM and/or NHLPA and now he his never going to get the benefit of the doubt of any call by any official.

It's kind of hard for me to believe that Rafalski is the oldest. That makes me feel old. And Callahan and Drury over Gomez and Gionta? I wonder if Tortorella had any influence in that decision.

Yes, a goalie gets the W for an overtime or shootout win. That's where the comparison between Brodeur's win total and Patrick Roy's win total sort of falls apart.
As of right now, Brodeur has 576 wins with 33 of those resulting from a shootout. Nine more nonshootout wins and that will be a moot point.
However, unless the Devils have another run like they did from 2000-2003, Brodeur is going to fall short in the playoff wins department.

Awesome game, I'm glad that I watched the whole thing. I think the best part was (correct me if I'm wrong) that Montreal never had a lead the ENTIRE game. The Riders held the lead from the first field goal until there was 0:00 left in the fourth quarter and still lost the game. Has that ever happened before?

I was shocked when I read the headline, but after reading the article, not so much.
The article addresses the discontent on the process by which Saskin was hired and Eric Lindros' resignation as the association's ombudsman but what it doesn't address is how there are plenty of capable players still out there that won't get a job this season in the NHL due to the salary cap or those that believe that they will get underpaid because of collusion.
I fear the worst, that another hockeyless winter awaits us in the near future.

Would it make him a better person if he simply threw wads of cash around the place without any thought? Surely not.
I have a problem with personal foundations that have plenty of money coming in, but small amounts actually being disbursed for charitable purposes
That reminds me of something a wise man once told me. He said that before you give to any charity/non-profit organization that you should find out what percentage of your donation will go to the actual cause and how much goes to administrative costs. Supposedly, most of the charities that use telemarketing only receive about 20% of your donation (maybe even less).

I see Mad Dog is also on his way to Chicago. I can't say I'm happy to see him to leave New Jersey, but that much money was too rich for Lou to match.
What's up with Montreal? First they trade for Gomez and then they sign Gionta to a 5 year/$5 mil per deal. $12mil is an awful lot of money for an average of 38 goals per season.

Before the lockout, it seemed like it was common for contenders to sign a veteran who had yet to win a Cup. Hasek, Bourque, Andreychuk to name a few. As a Devils fan I was worried about that extra motivation back in 2003 when the Mighty Ducks had veteran Steve Thomas. Somehow, he didn't make the list.

Hold on a minute, the Czechs-Mex Line? Really? Oh wait, the caption tells the story:
Certainly nowhere near as famous or successful as Edmonton's stellar `80s line of Wayne Gretzky, Esa Tikkanen and Jari Kurri, this short-lived line (2006-07) scored points with us for its clever moniker based on the trio's ethnic heritages.
OK, so it's not about talent as much as SI just likes the names. Well, as much as I despise the Flyers, even if they only made it into this list because of their nickname, I think the Legion of Doom deserves to be mentioned in a list of greatest lines.

but in lieu of the EGG line should have been the EAS. Elias, Arnott, and Sykora were the top line on a team that scored the second most goals in the NHL and allowed the least in 99-00, and they also won the Cup.
More commonly known as the A-Line, but I agree, still better than the Elias, Gomez, Gionta line.
Funny thing about those guys, prior to Mondays game in Nashville from Tom Gulitti:
From the odd category. Although Jason Arnott said he saw Patrik Elias for "a little bit" on Sunday in Nashville, Elias denied he saw or spoke to Arnott on Sunday. In fact, Elias said his last communication with Arnott was when he sent him an text message to congratulate him for playing in his 1000th game on Dec. 23.

From about.com: Over 350 members of the NHL Players' Association took their game to Europe during the 2004-05 NHL lockout Dynamo Moscow won its the Russian championship with an NHL assist from Maxim Afinogenov, Artem Chubarov, Pavel Datsyuk, Andrei Markov and Sergei Samsonov. Based in Kazan, a small city in the eastern republic of Tatarstan, the Snow Leopards spent a reported $65 million US on a roster that included Nikolai Khabibulin, Vincent Lecavalier, Ilya Kovalchuk, Alexei Kovalev, Dany Heatley and Darius Kasparaitis. The Czech league was victimized by bidding wars. Jaromir Jagr, Martin Havlat and Patrik Elias were among those who began with Czech teams before bailing out for better offers in Finland or Russia. Russia hosted 70 NHLPA visitors, with a couple of teams said to be among the richest in Europe. Emphasis mine. All I am saying is that Russia (or Europe in general) wasn't such a bad place to play during the last lockout. And as you can see, some places did have a decent amount of money to throw around. Add to that the seemingly declining popularity of the NHL, and the possibilty of another lockout in the near future, well, the thought of a European league competing with the NHL doesn't seem so far fetched to me.
