Sonics lower the boom on Head Coach, GM.: Seattle Supersonics Coach Bob Hill has been fired, and General Manager Rick Sund has been "re-assigned" to the position of consultant. Owner Clay Bennett and Vice Chairman Lenny Wilkins will be in charge of hiring a new coach and GM.

A lot of folks think ole Lenny is gonna slide himself into a dual GM/Coach situation. General Manager? Maybe. But head coach? I sincerely doubt it. After Lenny's last coaching stints in NY, where a one legged wonder like Penny and a playoff disappearing act like Marbury can sandbag him, or Toronto, where an entire squad just up and quit on him (thank you Vince Carter), I don't think he want's anything to do with coaching today's pro athelete. He's too old for that shit (most of us are). It'd be nice to see someone new get a look at the Head Coaching job here, maybe Terry Porter? I'd hate to see a retread like Mike Fratello get another chance. Who's available? Musselman. Casey. Van Gundy. Bzdelik. O'Brien. Weiss. Kruger. Silas. Floyd. I dunno. This is gonna be interesting.

Ugh. I still think they picked the wrong sport. It's really Bavasi that needs to be on the next train out of town. Fact is, the success we had two years ago (Nate McMillan's last year coaching) was a team that drastically overachieved. They now have the same basic core and they've come back to their own level. This is how a team will do when Rashard Lewis is your second best player. (I mean you want to see what a really good, playoff caliber team is? Look at their second best player, it's a superstar type which Rashard is not, not, not). I guess the game has basically passed Lenny by, which makes me sad that he would not be able to relate to this generation of players. Casey is an option, not a very sexy pick but he's been here. Silas also doesn't seem to be too inspiring a selection. You're right about one thing, it could be interesting.

How would Adelman fit?

What's the ratio of Seattle basketball headlines that include the term 'sonic boom' to those that do not? I would imagine it's used at least 38.73% of the time. Just saying.

Whoever the new coach is, I hope they don't look for real estate in the greater Puget Sound area. My gut says that there is a 38.73% chance that Seattle is going to have the Sonics two years from now. And Bavasi stinks. (Sorry, the basketball season ended for me in the first round in March)
