UNC Accused of NCAA Violations: The University of North Carolina has received a notice alleging numerous significant violations in its football program, though none of them are tied to head coach Butch Davis. Former UNC assistant coach John Blake was secretly working for agent Gary Wichard, receiving $31,500 in pay to steer players to him for their pro careers, and seven players received more than $27,000 in improper benefits. Blake refused to provide NCAA investigators with tax records from 2005-10 or information about a $45,000 deposit in December 2007 from Wichard's bank.

Is this the same John Blake that used to coach for the Dallas Cowboys? The same John Blake that used to coach for Oklahoma? Yeh, I thought so.

From reading around, this seems to be the worst (in terms of the sliding scale of bad things you can do at the NCAA) scandal so far. To have a coach directly being in the pocket of agents is muy mal in terms of the NCAA's thinking. Expect heavy punishment to fall onto UNC.

As far as the allegations, they were pretty well known beforehand, actually. I'm kind of surprised they didn't find anything new.

If they hadn't suspended their best players last season, you certainly would've known they have a football team. Speaking of suspending those players, Heels fans in the area are hoping that's what saves the program from any overly harsh punishments.
I think they should get rid of Butch Davis. Any sort of tarnish on any of the athletic programs in Chapel Hill will rub off on their basketball program. I just don't see any moneyed alumni being happy with that happening.
