Barry Bonds signs with Yankees!:
The New York Yankees have pulled out all the stops to win this season and have signed Barry Bonds to act as their DH. This comes on the heels of Jason Giambi being diagnosed with another stomach tumour (his first one was in 2004). Bonds is expected to practice with their Florida State League team for a couple of weeks before being called up to the majors. The terms of his contract are currently unavailable.

Unfortunately, the NY Daily News link is getting pounded by visitors at this time. It sometimes takes a couple of retries before it loads properly. Two questions arise: 1) How will the Yankee fans react to having Bonds as the DH? 2) What does this mean for the Yankees triple-A Cuban outfield prospect, Lirpa Sloof? Is he going to have to wait another year before getting called up?

The part of me that loves baseball hopes so, but the part of me that hates the yankees hopes its for real.

Oh man.... I completely forgot it was April 1st. This one got me pretty good. I was thinking, "Who the HELL is Lirpa Sloof?!"

April Fools day is for assholes. Honestly, you may as well not even bother reading any websites until April 2nd now.

I never read the articles anyways. I come for the snark.

In a related story, the Post reports sources close to the Yankees say Hank Steinbrenner was so upset by yesterday's rainout he will fire Joe Girardi sometime before tonight's game. His replacement reportedly will be Billy Martin's son.

O grum!, you trickster, and for a minute, i thought wow I guess it is possible to hate the yankees more than i already do.

If I hadn't just written a few checks, I wouldn't have known the date, and would, therefore, have pooped myself a little bit when I read that FPP. Nice one, grum, regardless of the sunshiny outlook of some of the members here(They prefer Guy Fawkes Day, perhaps?).

I alwayed loved the Sid Finch prank. Mostly because it included the classic combination of Lenny Dykstra and George Plimpton (if I recall correctly).

Man, when i read that headline, i called my boss before I read the article since we're both baseball nuts here in Houston. After I got off the phone, I opened the article and realised i had been spoofed. Obiviously, i had to call my boss back and changed my story. Nice one, Grum!!

Well played, grum. Good form. If anyone can't appreciate the well honed craft displayed by such a fine April Fools, your underwear is too tight. I bit on it. The joke. Not the tidy whiteys.

I alwayed loved the Sid Finch prank. And here it is, Sidd Finch. in all his glory.

As much as this is a joke, the sad truth is Bonds glove and arm at 1st would be an upgrade over Giambi.

My pleasure, Weedy. As a lifelong Mets fan, I have to admit to being completely fooled (and thrilled) by this back in '85.

Grum, you seriously have to much time on your hands. This is going to be hard to beat. April fools joke wise.

So, uh, what ever happened to those dead hookers in Mr. Maddux's trunk?

posted by Ufez Jones at 07:49 PM on April 01, 2008

They got slashed, killed, run through the wrong end of a printing press and put in a big old Caddy. Or did you mean after?

posted by yerfatma at 08:04 PM on April 01, 2008

Well, "after" is such a relative term. To Greg's credit, none of them said the safe-word.

April Fools day is for assholes. Give me a break, Drood, it's my birthday. It took me a second or 2 to remember the day, but I'm sure there are many who took longer to make the connection. This one was a natural for an April Fool's prank.

April fools day is great. i have a friend who is at work right now telling people that the steelers traded Nate Washington, Dan Kreider and Kendell Simmons to the bengals for Chad Johnson and a 4th round draft pick. I cant wait to see the reprocussions when he figures it out.

posted by Debo270 at 08:01 AM on April 02, 2008

grum, if only you could have posted that with "Never Gonna Give You Up"* playing in the backround. *aka "rickrolled".
