Dirk Gent(leman)ly: Reading some English comments on the Marbury-LeBron sneaker war, I learned that Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt runs his own foundation to help the poor in Nepal and Ghana, as well as back home in his native Holland. I was suitably impressed.

Everything I've heard about this guy makes it sound like he's a hell of a good chap. He loves playing, he loves the teams he's played for, he's a big community guy, and he's good with his money. It's a shame he's Dutch. He'd be perfect otherwise. (Not since boxer Bobby Czyz has there been a four-letter last name that was so unpronounceable.)

I just think of it as "Look out", since that was pronounced "K'out" when I was a kid.

It's much easier to pronounce than Svlad Cjelli.

What a great article. A story about the GOOD things that sports stars do. Not only is he a rising star on the field, but a hero to many that could care less about his ability to play. Although I have previously admired his play, I am proud to say I am now a Dirk Kuyt fan for life.

Chico, Are you forgetting Jiri Crha, not-so-very-good Leafs goalie of our youth? As for Kuyt, good on him.
