Hidden: Duke Lacrosse Investigation: Attorneys for the players say DNA test results find no match between Duke lacrosse players and a woman who says she was raped at a team party.

This is the most concise of the many links available for this. I chose this rather than one that was a bit more lengthy because the longer one was released by the defense attorneys. I wanted to go with the more neutral source. Combine this with the fact that it appears the stripper was injured and impaired when she showed up, as reported in the Chicago Tribune and it seems that a coach was fired, a season was cancelled and 42 young men have had their names dragged through the mud for some unknowable reason.

It's not only the players, but the university as a whole that has suffered at the hands of the media. This has gone from a limited crime blown out of proportion to a ridiculous and groundless libel of faultless administrators and students not even connected to the noncrime. Thanks to the media, Duke students are viewed as the villains in this whole affair for absolutely no reason.

it seems that a coach was fired, a season was cancelled and 42 young men have had their names dragged through the mud for some unknowable reason. Yes, those privileged young men really got screwed. God Bless Our Boys. ESPN's story provides some actual information (rather than just gasoline for another fire) and some links. Additionally, a lesser man than I might read "No DNA material from any young man was present on the body of this complaining woman" as "Good thing they used condoms." Now, see, this is what "innocent until proven guilty" is all about. I'm going to wait until we see some more evidence. The case continues to not be closed, and it's clear that someone (maybe everyone) is hiding some of the truth here.

Combine this with the fact that it appears the stripper was injured and impaired when she showed up, as reported in the Chicago Tribune... Allegedly. The photos that form the basis of this assumption haven't been released by the attorney in your link yet. If they exist at all, much less contain what the attorney professes they do. And yet at the same time: I might read "No DNA material from any young man was present on the body of this complaining woman" as "Good thing they used condoms." This is true, but the lack of DNA matches from the samples taken from under the victim's nails somewhat muddles this otherwise good point. Something is definitely rotten in Denmark.

This is sad. Two awful outcomes: 1) A girl was brutally assaulted, and yet the rich, arrogant jerks who raped her (and who think they can get away with anything) may indeed have gotten away with everything. 2) A bunch of fun-loving college kids who were just indulging in a little good unclean fun have been tagged with an unofficial sexual-assualt tag that will likely follow them for the rest of their lives. Hopefully sooner or later some conclusive evidence will tell us where our disgust should be directed, and why. In the meantime, my disgust will be focused on my urgent need to be disgusted with a situation that I still don't know much about.

Well, it certainly does look like they're not guilty of sexual assault - though perhaps I'll wait for the full truth to come out. There certainly was no good outcome to this story as the previous commenter pointed out. Still, it has been admitted that at least one of them used racial slurs. "Thank your granpa for my nice cotton shirt"? That's just not cool. So in the words of the immortal words of NWA, someone's guilty of being a redneck, whitebread, chickenshit muthafucka.

I must admit that I really want to see those boys punished serveley. However, in the interest of justice, that may not come for some time and maybe not at all. No offense, but many white people get away with these type of crimes ALL THE TIME! As an African American male, if they are proven guilty, I would want to be left alone, in a dark room, where no one could hear them scream, with those that did that to her. These type of things happens far too much in this country!

Yeah... this is going to get ugly around here. If anyone's looking for me, I'm going to try to bid on that cheetah in the Chest Hair Extravaganza Poster in the lockerroom.

Fatfryar, you do realize that by posting a blog, you are now part of the media you are villifying? In any case, the situation is not over. Even if the players didn't rape the woman, there's still an ethics code in place for the student athletes, just like there is for frat houses. I'm not saying it's OK their season was cancelled, but they had to know there were consequences if their party got out of hand. Or maybe they just thought they were untouchable.

A cheetah's hunting shift lasts between 20 and 50 seconds. During the shift, the cheetah may reach speeds of up to 65 MPH. After that, the cheetah must rest. About half of the cheetah's hunting shifts are successful.

Just a hunch, by the time this is over the overzealous prosecutor will lose his election. The stripper/escort/convicted thief will be charged with a crime for false allegations. The rich lacross playing "boys" will be cleared and yet will still be looked upon as scum. My take, the rich scumbags hired some strippers... after getting sloshed... and having some asshole(s) make racial slurs...stripper decides it's time to leave with all of the money...the rich boys take half of their money back ...stripper gets pissed and claims rape. Just a hunch. (I swear I saw something that said that the plaintiff claimed they took her $400...hence the italics on the half the money bit) /ducks, closes eyes, and heads over to bid on a roll of tape or maybe a stapler or maybe even a cheetah paper weight...(the bare chested, excited dude poster scares me.)

Adult female cheetahs are solitary, except when they are raising cubs. They rarely associate with other adults, and when they do, it is likely to be for only a few hours following a chance encounter with a sister or when found by territorial males. Males are more gregarious than females and often live in permanent groups, which are sometimes composed of littermates.

Did you know that a cheetah's sprint is anaerobic? That is, the big cat holds it's breath while running flat out.

posted by owlhouse at 11:14 PM on April 10, 2006

That last comment was taken directly from The Encylopedia of Mammals, edited by David MacDonald. I in no way support the actions of certain cheetahs, I was just looking stuff up.

I love spofi... Its like those Holliday Inn Express commercials... "No, I'm not a (doctor, family and human services professional, psychologist, lawyer, etc...) But I do have t-shirt # 9,000,032 proclaiming that I'm expert on absolutely everything on my Sports Filter profile.

teddy515: tawana brawley all over,if this woman made this up ,she should get what those guys would have gotten if convicted Fat chance. Tawana Brawley, after it was proved she was lying about being raped and smeared with feces by "white cops," took off with her family away from New York with an estimated $300G's in "donations" from well-wishers. "Rev." Al Sharpton, who shielded Brawley's mother from police interrogation and became a national celebrity as a result, joined two racist black lawyers in accusing a local deputy DA , Steven Pagones, of being a participant in the raping of Brawley despite displaying no evidence whatsoever and regardless of his iron-clad alibis. Before TV cameras and print reporters, Sharpton dared Pagones to sue him if he wasn't guilty of the crime, promising he had the goods to send Pagones to prison if he had the nerve to face him in court. Pagones sued. Sharpton and the racist lawyers (Alton Maddox and C. Vernon Mason, who were both disbarred) lost. But Sharpton never apologized and cried poverty when he was ordered to pay $65,000 in damages, and only escaped more legal trouble for evading the order when several black millionaires -- among them broadcaster Percy Sutton and the late Johnnie Cochran -- chipped in to pay Pagones for him. So who knows? Maybe some day, the accusing stripper/escort/whatever may emerge from anonymity and become a Democratic candidate for President, at which point the news media will conveniently forget that she's a filthy liar.

Urgent? I wouldn't call this urgent, I'd call it ridiculous. Some people here just refuse to wait for all the facts. This is about as urgent as Culpeppers charges getting dropped. {Notice only half the people who bashed him on the previous thread showed up on the latest thread.} Note that it's more "urgent" to find out that some of these guys accused might not be guilty, vs. finding out who assaulted this woman. Take the Duke team and those Vikings on the boat and swap them in this situation. If 1 of those poor little "public employees" on the private charter boat was claiming rape while the Vikings players were there, some of you would be calling for a congressional hearing into the Vikings organization. Then when it was found out that Culpeppers charges were dropped, someone in that thread pointed out the fact that he was shooting dice!! The Vice president of this country is shooting PEOPLE, and we're worried about an NFL player shooting dice. BTW, tselson, defense tactics 101.....step A. discredit the witness/victim/person accusing you. L.N., you speak as if brawley and sharpton lied about WMD's and got over 2000 american troops killed in search of oil.

Probably so. Whenever it looks like a person in a position of power over others abuses that power, Tom Joad and I show up in the Whammo Jalopy to mete and dole rough justice.

The stripper was also a college student I believe. So the question actually is "Which college student do you believe?"
