Tainted Steel: Our mission is to raise money to put up a billboard in front of Heinz Field in which the truth will be on display for all to see. Its location will draw attention from the national media and embarass the NFL.

More funny than anything, my Catholic upbringing does like the idea of using shame though.

It was the politics of the game. I was pulling for Seattle, but I knew that no matter what, Pittsburgh was to win. Seattle should have had that game...

(If this had happened to the Packers, GBFan, you'd be "cry'n" and thinking about stunts like this too, and you know it.) Is this misguided? Maybe. Not really thought all the way through? Definitely. Is it going to happen? Probably not. If it does, will it change anything? Of course not. All that doesn't mean it isn't a decent and non-destructive way to vent after a cruddy Super Bowl.

The game was rigged, everyone knows it, and the NFL will never admit to it of course. This idea is hilarious and I would love to see it happen, but doubt it ever will.

The Steelers won that's all that matters! Dropped passes and poor clock management (2 times) killed the Seahawks, not the refs! I don't hear any of you saying any thing about the block in the back that was NOT CALLED during the run back of an interception! It was very clear! If you were worried about being fair, you would mention all of the plays you thought the Refs missed not just the ones that feed your need to cry! Besides a great team can overcome mistakes, that's what makes them great! (The Steelers made enough of their own mistakes but still managed to win! One thing about the USA, you have a right to keep whining, so go ahead, knock yourselves out having what you call a "Good time"!

If it's gonna be that way, then it's time they get the public humiliation they deserve. I love the place at which this guy draws the line. Starvation in Africa ... eh. First let me qualify that I am a Steeler hater and wanted the Seahawks to win - this coming from a guy who grew up in Western PA but have hated the Steelers since the IMMACULATE RECEPTION - yes I am a Raider fan. The officating did not win or lose the game - there were questionable and missed calls against both teams in the game. The Seahawks lost simply because they made more mistakes than the Steelers in what was probably one of worst played Super Bowls in a long time.

Not only is it foolish, but for somebody who's trying to whip NFL fans into a "power to the people" moment, you choose a billboard company owned by Clear Channel, a multi-billion dollar enterprise that has killed hundreds of local local radio stations and put more people out of work than anybody but Wal-Mart. Oh, the irony. Not only that, but you can't embarass the NFL. Nothing embarasses the filthy rich...just look at Paris Hilton.

I like the idea of doing something to let the NFL realize that fans do care if officiating is good. Maybe they should put a fan on the rules committee. By the way, the people who are complaining about the officiating are not all disgruntled Seahawks fan. I don't even know any Seahawks fans, but the officiating in the Super Bowl really wasn't good. Steelers fans can understand that, right?

Wouldn't Seattle fans be better served worrying about if Shaun Alexander will return next year? After all the Super Bowl loss is now 9 days old and should have become a painful memory by now. Steeler fans are concerned with repeating their Super Bowl victory next year as it should be.

posted by DrBill at 05:07 PM on February 14, 2006

The rules committee should learn one thing from this game. Any play under review should require indisputable evidence to counter what was called on the field, ...except a touchdown. A touchdown under review should not be assumed a score unless absolute evidence indicates the ball crossed the goal line. If you don't cram it in, it shouldn't be worth 6 points. Micro guesses just isn't football.

For nine days I have read the comments and have enjoyed them immensely. As a neutral observer who was rooting for the Steelers( loyal to my home state of PA) let's call the Super Bowl what it was: pretty poor football. Neither team played that well, the officiating sucked and Mike Holmgren got out-coached. I did however enjoy the fact that the two biggest shit talkers before the game, Porter and Stevens, produced very little. SHUT UP and play football. The best thing about the game was the food, the beer, and my widescreen TV. The game is in the books and nothing can change that.

srw12 is still a little mad as a Bengal bandwagoneer that the Steelers may have been better that the Bungles. Nice to have a forum to fianlly get your jab back at them? Anyone still complaining about the Superbowl a week and a half later is pathetic. I would be overjoyed if miraculously my Lions could get screwed in the SUPERBOWL after finally gettting in for the first time.

I don't know about the billboard idea but I do have to agree that the officiating was horrible in not only the Super Bowl but the entire playoffs too. But then again, what do I know about the world of football.

posted by Ying Yang Mafia at 05:26 PM on February 14, 2006

Most of us have bitched about the officiating all season. Bad calls have been the only thing consistent about the season. Until the refs are full time nothing is going to change. I like what coach Stoops said when asked about being robbed of a win because of a bad call against Texas tech: "That call didn't matter, our team should not have been in that position in the first place." As far as a national movement bullsh:t there are other more important things in life.

STEELERS DRINK CHAMPAIGN, SEAHAWKS WHINE! Hearing this bad call, fixed game stuff is total bullshit and holds no water. ANYONE who is whinning, needs to learn the rules of football and know that while some calls were somewhat questionable to the "joe average" fan, the calls were by the rules of the NFL...PERIOD Maybe Holmgren should have been reading the "play menu" instead of the "breakfast menu"! Bottom line is that DEFENSE and EXACUTION wins games..PITTSBURGH had both and the Cryhawks did not! With his post, "kosmicdebris" put the ball between the uprights...unlike Brown (who by the way, the Steelers dumped because he sucks!)

It never fails to amaze me how some 'neutral' fans can be such assholes with regularity. I actually made over $150 from bets not on the game or the outcome, but on whether or not the Seattle fans would be incensed with the outcome. They have been pissing and moaning about every one of their losses this year, and it will continue until their players don pads for next year. Just get over it, huh? What a bunch of sorry assed whiners. If they try to put a billboard like that up in Pittsburgh, the Steeler fans will have it torn down before it goes up.

The most memorable thing about any of the past 40 super bowls is the Jackson girl's boob, and people bitched about it. And, it was such a nice boob. I don't care who won or lost or got snookered by the refs, but I did watch the first part of it and saw that the refs appeared to be getting a lot of camera exposure, which is normal, but they all looked like Dick Cheney, so I went home and watched an old Sam Peckinpah western. A lot of people there looked like Dick Cheney so I went out and peed in the pool to feed the mosquito larvae ... maybe I was just bored.

Not to worry, kiddies- Remember all the people having coronaries over Tom Brady, the Raiders, and the 'tuck rule' reversal that we were told would forever taint the Pats' chamionship run of that year? In 5 years, all anyone will remember is that the Steelers won, they beat the Seahawks, and I think they won by like 10... we'll all be too busy bitching about the next batch of horribly called games to remember any of this drama..

If Kimo Von Cheapshot won't have cheapshoted carson palmer in the first round of the playoffs, Palmer would have carved up the suspect defense of the Steelers, just like Hasselbeck did. Hasselbeck owned the Steelers D, like no one since Carson Palmer did the second time the two teams played. Is it Hasselbecks fault the officials called back every big play? Is it Hasselbeck's fault when the Seahawks made a big stop on the goalline the official ruled Ben Worthlessberger in anyway? Is it Hasselbeck's fault he got called for block below the back making a great takle on Ike Taylor? The ref were obviously paid off by Rick Thoccet, obviously Gretzky's wife had about half a million on the game and Rick couldn't let his boy's wife take a hit like that. If you think the Stealers won the game, and not had it handed to them, you are just a blind homer, that has nothing insightful to say, and shouldn't be wasting people's time. Face facts, If you lost to the Ravens when Antony Wright was quarterbacking, your not a superbowl worthy team. There was no champion this year, as far as I'm concerned the Patriots are still defending champs next year, they are the last time to win the superbowl.
