Venezuela Wins Caribbean Baseball Series: You have to see the clip of the last play. The ball is hit high to short left field, the shortstop goes for it but loses it and the ball wacks him on the end (ouch). His own left fielder could not contain himself and laughed at the play.... Gonzalez ends up scoring the winning run to give Venezuela the title!

Not long after Venezuela's Alex Gonzalez pounced on home plate for the game-winner, the fireworks lit up the night behind the new Red Sox shortstop and the fans poured onto the field from the stands. Yessss... Excellent!

classic play. i'm sure it wasn't very funny for the people in the dominican. i could only imagine the magnitude of that play if it happened here and was for a division title, pennant, or world series winner.

Sweet. Now my All-Bounces-Off-His-Head team has a shortstop. Right field, Canseco. I have my choice of a score of pitchers (pun intended, but not maliciously). Am I missing anyone?

Yes, Every Fan in the caribbean is very pationate about their teams, the Dominicans are no exceptions. The play wasn't funny a all, but the left fielder's first reaction was to laugh at it, maybe out of dispare!
It was a great series......

What, is it amateur hour? What was he thinking? Going after the ball, then stopping to look at his teammate, as if to say "Maybe he's got it?" wtf? Aren't these guys pros who should know better?

Parallel circumstance, with just a bit less physical humor. I hope (perhaps against hope) that Aybar doesn't go through what Buckner (or Merckle, etc.) have gone through. I wonder if the collective memory of Dominican fans, passionate as they are, is as long, cynical and unforgiving as that of the American fans. I also wonder what influence this series might have when these teams meet again - very soon - in the WBC.
