Sao Paulo champions of the world:

"Sao Paulo can do no wrong on the world stage.

Three times the Brazilian team has reached the final of the Club World Championship, and three times they have walked away victorious...Liverpool has now been defeated in all three world club finals it has appeared in."

Well apart from all those times they didn't even qualify between 1994 and 2005.

Did anyone see this game? Was it televised anywhere?

It was on Fox Soccer Channel in the States. It started at like 5:00 am Eastern time, so I missed the first half hour (including the goal), but the second half was as lopsided a pitch as I've ever seen, especially without a goal being scored. If I were a hardcore Liverpool fan I'd be complaining about some of the iffier offside calls, but Sao Paulo just got a little lucky and then hung on for dear life.

It was on the BBC too. I watched the last 15 minutes or so and saw one of their disallowed goals. It didn't look offside to me, but it was very, very close so whaddya gonna do? This isn't exactly a major trophy though. The only teams that ever care about are the ones who win it. I suspect Liverpool would much rather have been back in England, especially if they now drop points in their two games in hand.

Yup. Not a big deal in Europe. I'd love to see a proper World Club Championship - not this retarded piece of shit they have at the moment. I'm sorry, but Al Ahly and Saprissa are not among the best 8 teams in the world. Sydney FC qualified before they'd even played a league game for God's sake!

It started at like 5:00 am Eastern time Tivo is your friend, Chico! I wasn't getting up at 2:30 a.m. PST for anything less than... well, nothing in the sporting world I can assure you. Why FIFA insist on playing this with the Boxing Day - New Years run of games is beyond me, and with 'Pool playing the extra six CL qualifying games in August too I was more than a bit surprised to see Reina, Hyppia, Carragher, and Gerrard go 90 minutes in both matches. Shame to break the shutout streak but the SP goal was a good effort, no complaints about it unlike many other poor decisions from the Stripes.

Sydney FC qualified before they'd even played a league game Ahem. They played an Australian qualifying tournament against all the A-League teams, won it, then won the Oceania confederation qualifying tournament as well. The lack of 'league' games was due to the anomaly of a domestic league restructuring.

Ah, sadly, Tivo and I are not currently sharing an apartment.

I saw the game live on the BBC. A quite civilized 10.20am kick-off. It was Sunday so I had to set the alarm. Liverpool should have won it easily.

Ah, sadly, Tivo and I are not currently sharing an apartment. Dude, promiscuity is your firend! I am not a fan of Liverpool till they get rid of Benitez... Dude, did you not say the same thing about Houllier? Maybe I should call my buddy Rick (Parry) and see if he'll hire you, that's the only choice that will make you happy.

Comment icon posted by StarFucker at 8:26 AM CST on December 20 Unbelievable, have you noticed how good Liverpool is playing lately? (Despite this meaningless loss) Benitez is not a good coach, he's a GREAT coach. One of the best in the business. Every Benitez team I've ever seen play (Tenerife, Valencia, Liverpool) has always started slow, until they learned his system. Then they win championships.
