Jean Van De Velde goes for Ladies British Open.: Honestly, with girls crossing over to the men's tour, is there a viable argument to prevent men from doing the same thing? Sexism goes both ways on this one, I would think, and a gender only policy in the Ladies Golf Union is just as exclusionary as one in the Men's tour.

We all knew it was coming at some point. Just a matter of who would be the first. But then again, he could just be trying to get laid.

They've got nothing to worry about, as long as they have a creek or two on the back nine.

This is where the feminist "equality" speech back fires on them..... Same as with the kid in highschool that wants to join the girls field hockey team cause they don't offer the program for boys and he wants to play the sport..... Link to that story!!!!

What an ass. The reason that the PGA and other tours get the lion's share of money and attention are because they take the best players in the world, not because they take the best male players. Van de Velde benefits from that stature. If Michelle Wie or another woman is good enough to qualify for the British Open, does he really want her to be excluded so that a lesser male gets that spot? A woman's league, like a senior's league or an amateur's league, is exclusive to a particular group because the league would be impossible otherwise. You couldn't have a Champions Tour for seniors without a minimum age rule. Would people who are supporting Van de Velde's action be backing him if he was trying out for a senior tour? The age requirement is no less discriminatory than the gender requirement in the LPGA.

I once got schooled in basketball by a college girl and I am DAMNED glad it wasn't on television. p.s. I didn't get laid either

Right on rcade. If Van de Velde thinks that this is 'reverse discrimination,' let's give him his men's-only tour, we'll call it the MPGA. He and all the other jerks who feel threatened by female players can play on it, while the world's best golfers enjoy their very-slightly-mixed-gender PGA tour. We'll see if he's happy then.

"But then again, he could just be trying to get laid." On the LPGA?? He's barking up the wrong tree I fear.

As stupid as it seems, he has just as much right to the LPGA as do the ladies to the PGA. I don't care how silly it seems enough is enough. All throughout highschool we had girls trying out for football and all the guys sports, but the secound a guy goes out for a girls sport because it's not offered to guys he gets some kind of lable or parents start some kind of patition, because guys are stronger then girls and the guy might hurt their daughter, but those same parents think it's ok to have the girl play football. Bottom line if we are going to allow or disallow this why lable the sport mens or womens, if that stops then none of this would go on.

PGA = Professional Golf Association (no 'men' label) LPGA = Ladies Professional Golf Association So again, doesn't apply.

Well, he has got a girl's name.

Will he have to sport a "man-gina" in the locker room?

Yep - the Senior League arguement is most applicable. This is not the same as women qualifying for PGA events. It's true, without restrictions the LPGA could not exist (Guys on the Nike Tour would flood into it).

They ought to just let him play. Once he gets his ass beat by half the field, I bet he will be sorry he ever opened his man-whore pie-hole. Thats right, I said MAN-WHORE PIE-HOLE!!!

I can only hope they pair him with Big Wiezy, and she outdrives him to the point of career-crippling shame. Either that, or they pair him with Annika, who not only shames him with her game, but her ability to grow a mustache.

Thats right, I said MAN-WHORE PIE-HOLE!!! Completely inappropriate, but also absolutely hilarious. I can only hope they pair him with Big Wiezy, and she outdrives him to the point of career-crippling shame. I'm pretty sure she can outdrive a large portion of the PGA/EPGA membership.

I know it's inappropriate, but it's all I could come up with.

Completely inappropriate, but also absolutely hilarious. Concur. It's the trochaic diameter or something.
