Kobe-Phil pairing won't amount to much: Superstar, coach back together, but Lakers simply aren't very good.

Phil would not have returned if there were not a plan in place to build a championship caliber team.

Phil was bored. And the Lakers have no front court worth mentioning.

Phil Jackson = #1 coach Kobe Bryant = #1 player #1 coach + #1player = #1team

Simplistic reasoning + overblown expectations = pissed off fans.

Don't blame Jackson for returning to LA. His other choice was the Knicks.

Kobe+ Phil still=1 player, 1 coach. Basketball team= 12 players, x coaches Lakers= grossly outnumbered if you do not count the people sleeping on the court

Kobe + Phil still equals team without Shaq

enough silly equations. I have watched the games I can get this preseason, and the Lakers actually look pretty good (5-2). They will get into the playoffs this year, and that is all anyone is reasonably expecting. Kobe is good enough that, in the triangle, he can cause enough problems to beat the teams they need to beat (read: everyone out of 8th place) Someone said it, though: Phil would not be back if he didn't think they could win. Saying he is "bored" is stupid. Saying he needed the money is stupid. Saying he didn;t have his choice of about 15 other teams is stupid. There you have it.

Ssshhhh: I think "There you have it" means "[THIS THREAD IS CLOSED TO NEW COMMENTS]". We're done here people. See you at the Thread 5354 Wrap Party. I'm brining my Swedish Meatballs. The Nelson Twins.

Saying (Phil) is "bored" is stupid. Saying he needed the money is stupid. Saying he didn;t have his choice of about 15 other teams is stupid. There you have it. Thank God there's somebody around who isn't afraid to call us all stupid when we're, well, too stupid to realize it. Go ahead and buy those Lakers postseason tickets now, Joshua, with all the proceeds from your "I made it up on AOL" website. Oh, and bragging about the fact that you're no longer sleeping on a futon? Kind of sad. There you have it.

There you have it: the new black.

well, if MSNBC says it, why even play the season? Apparently their crack sports department just heard about something that happened what, 7 months ago. Of course the Lakers arent very good, maybe 7th or 8th seed, but I think the Kobe bashing has gone a little far. I cant speak for him as a person as I have never met him. But he has become the target of choice for hack sportswriters. They would like to forget he led a team to a 3-peat while still in his early 20s- and yes he LED the team. I watched almost every Lakers game in those years. Would they have won without Shaq? Very doubtful. But Kobe had the ball in his hands when the games were on the line and he came through every time. To try to rewrite history and pretend that never happened is silly.

plus lesser but still important cogs like Rick Fox, Derek Fisher, Brian Shaw, Horace Grant, Ron Harper and others. Also this guy really did his homework before he wrote the article. Maybe if he Robert Horry had ever made any big shots, he might've made your list? I mean, he's no Brian Shaw, but still...

1 coach (ok GREAT coach) PLUS 1 great player MINUS Shaq DIVIDED BY Sterns new dress code = Miami Heat winning it all....(even though I am a Celtics fan) now THAT should be it

"Kobe-Phil pairing won't amount to much" Duh! Guys can't procreate. Lakers squeak into the playoffs as 7th or 8th seed and have their asses handed to them in the first round.

The X factor this season will be Odom. I'm really curious what the Zen Master will do to get him involved. He'll be more of a small forward this year playing next to Kwame, so it's going to be even harder for him to get the ball.

As a Rhode Island native, let me tell you now: if Lamar Odom is your "X factor", the equation solves to 0.
