Lazier's son is 4 years old

Is the guy saying that his son is a 4yr old wimp!??

I thought this was sports filter, why are we talking about race car driving?

posted by HATER 187 at 02:36 PM on October 18, 2005

Why are we talking about what you consider sports in every fucking thread? This discussion happened already.

I just can't not dig on auto racing. I also hate the whole female trying to make it in a male sport (or psuedo-sport) I really wish people could get over the fact that she has a pussy and is trying to race cars. I am not here to discuss Indy racing as a sport at any length just voicing my opinon as we all are on the post. Please don't get so angry in future post.

He's not angry because of your opinion. It's because you are shitting on threads. It's simple, if you don't care for a certain sport, then don't feel so compelled to share that thought with your fellow SpoFites in those threads. It's just not good form.

posted by NoMich at 03:55 PM on October 18, 2005

Fair enough. Back to the matter at hand, why would he get so cheesed off is bumping not racing? Aren't accidents common place in motor sports? I would have to assume that his real beef is with the fact that she is a woman in mans sport. Its really kind of funny because it could just fall under the whole women can't drive argument and that makes me chuckel.

Hi, I just did a search for "real beef fucking pussy" and found this site. So what's this thread about? Trade pics for pics. I'm going to go play "sports" now so I get home in time for dinner.

Danica Patrick's about the only reason I'd ever turn on an Indy race. She's good for the sport even if the chauvanists are pissed off about it. Maybe its too off-topic but could any Nascar fans in the house explain the attraction to Nascar? Is it something to do with exhaust fumes?

posted by fenriq at 04:55 PM on October 18, 2005

fenriq, last year I may have been able to explain an attraction to NASCAR, but so far this year I can't muster up the same sort of enthusiasm. Curiously, this is the same way I felt last year (only more so), so apparently two years' worth of waning enthusiasm is what I've got, and that seems to be the point at which I stop trying to defend it. I hope Brian France is happy with his "car of tomorrow" and his cookie-cutter tracks and his complete sanitization of a once-exciting sport. I can only hope that some of the owners with some serious business acumen (and I'm looking at you, Jack Roush, Roger Penske, and Chip Ganassi) pool their money and resources and start their own series. Maybe I could manage to be interested enough in that to explain it.

posted by mr_crash_davis at 05:04 PM on October 18, 2005

I couldn't agree more with mr crash davis. The money counters are ruining our sport. The circuit used to be a mix of short courses, road courses, mid-sized, and super-speedways. The drivers were distinct personalities. The people in charge are so worried about looking like red necks they will not let the drivers be themselves. But I still have hope. I remember why I love the sport. Four-wide into the turn at Taledega. Two guys door-to-door through 3 and 4 at Martinsville and somebody else sneaking underneath both of them for the win. Helmet-throwing finger-showing run you into the wall after the race PASSION. Maybe it's coming back. God, I miss it.

I can't believe nobody has said this yet, so I might as well get it out of the way: "I wouldn't mind probing Danica!" There, it's out of the way now.

If you have to have NASCAR explained to you, you wouldnt understand. Can you explain how golf qualifies as a sport? Like the man said, 4 wide inturn three at Talladega says it all.

Hater should keep things that make him "chuckel" to "hisself". If Danica was riding with him that would make 2 pussies in the car.

See, the thing is, if another male driver had hit lazier's temple with their fingers, it's go time. But since it was danica what can he do but sit there and take it? No way can he even touch her. So a fight between danica and any other male driver is unfair to the male driver. Poor guys =(

posted by justgary at 11:01 PM on October 18, 2005

Sheesh. What "fight"? If someone taps you on the temple, justgary, do you feel entitled to haul off and slug them?

posted by lil_brown_bat at 11:07 PM on October 18, 2005

LBB, while I do believe that confrontations between a male and female may be different than that between two males, I was being faceious. Didn't come across, obviously. I thought the 'poor guys' in a male dominated sport would tip you off.

Ah. Gotcha. Yeah, it was over the top, jg...but no more so than what many people say with straight faces, including some in this very thread; that's what fooled me. My bad -- I shoulda considered the source.

If someone taps you on the temple, justgary, do you feel entitled to haul off and slug them? Here in Florida, when someone does that, we can now justifiably shoot them.

posted by rcade at 08:30 AM on October 19, 2005

It would be really cool if we could just press reset on this thread and start again. I sense that NASCAR & the Indy series are tacitly allowing a certain amount of Pro Wrestling-style back-&-forth between the drivers, perhaps thinking it ramps up the drama, which attracts casual watchers who might not tune in to three hours of round-and-round. They may be right, but until they start suspending people for a year or more and taking away more than a few points and the occasional paycheck, this looks a lot like sanctioned road rage. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

posted by chicobangs at 08:38 AM on October 19, 2005

The worst feature of NASCAR is the silly points system. A couple of years ago Kensith won the series championship with just 1 win. Newman had 7 wins that year, but was a distant also-ran in the points system. This is sports. WINNING IS EVERYTHING.

So I missed the "racing is not a sport" thread, could someone point me to it? For the record I hate racing, Danika's allright lookin though.

I think that every online forum has at least one irredeemably dumb thread (or metathread). In some forums they're known as "groaners", for reasons that should be obvious. They're irredeemably dumb because they're unresolvable for one reason or another, because they inspire a vein-throbbing level of fervor in at least some people, and because people will not leave them alone. SpoFi has several irredeemably dumb (meta)threads, and the only reason why "x is/isn't a sport" is not foremost among them is because most people recognize it for the idjit debate it is. (In other words, tron, the search engine can point you to the "racing is not a sport" thread if that's what you really want, but you'd learn a lot more by just doing a search on "not a sport". )

Sport- an active diversion requiring physical exertion and competition I guess you could call it a sport, I just call it boring or hickish.

posted by tron7 at 04:16 PM on October 19, 2005

Well, what do you want, tron? The "is/isn't a sport" discussion has been held, specific to auto racing, several times. I'll be happy to point you to one of them if you don't want to look for yourelf, but which of those several threads would you like me to point you to? Moreover, what do you hope to find there? My point was that, yes, you can go look at these threads (and here's how to find them), but don't expect to find any answers there, because this is an unanswerable question/unresolvable debate. Make more sense now?

I guess you could call it a sport, I just call it boring or hickish. You know, I felt the same way too. But then I started catching a couple of the NASCAR events on an HD channel with my 50" TV with 5.1 surround sound...it's amazing. That said, I still don't follow the sport. But I don't immediately dismiss it like I used to...

posted by grum@work at 11:15 PM on October 19, 2005

Very few diversions are as grueling as a NASCAR race. Those cars aren't like your Yugo, and those drivers aren't just driving a couple miles up the pike for sausage and waffles. As far as competition, it's a race. Not even team sports are as purely competitive as races. Boring and hickish? That's an opinion. Suit yourself. No physical exertion or competition? That's just ignorant. You make yourself look even dumber than you are, when you write things like that. Again, suit yourself. Dummy.
