The Kenny Rogers Saga continues: Rogers has "words" with cameraman as he turns himself into police.

Am I the only one who is tired of this story and wish that Kenny Rogers would just just up and go away. At the same time, may it illegal for the "medea" to talk about him. This story has been blown way out of proportion.

Ron Artest, Dennis Rodman, Kenny Rogers..... now that is some good company huh?

I don't understand, given the circumstances, why a cameraman would get that close to him. He doesn't like them, he's being charged by one...seems like cornering a cat and poking him with a stick to me. Sure, he'll scratch you.

seems like cornering a cat and poking him with a stick to me. Sure, he'll scratch you. That's exactly what it is, and Rogers needs to be smart enough to figure it out. Media people like to be part of the show, and any cameraman who may be in a position to get knocked down again by Rogers becomes an instant celebrity. Rogers needs to learn the definition of "IGNORE." It's not like he just came into the league, and he's never been a big personality, anyways. Imagine if Michael Jordan or Derek Jeter went beserk every time a camera or reporter came in their vicinity. If Rogers can just get himself on some mood stabilizers and chill out, this story will die a natural death.

any cameraman who may be in a position to get knocked down again by Rogers becomes an instant celebrity I think a greater personal motivation for any journalists/camerapersons is the extension of a hot story.

Has Rogers been drug tested this year? To me it sounds like he might have some rage issues.

If I were in his place, I'd flip out every once in a while on a jackass cameraman too. Which is only one of the 8,376 reasons I'm not in his place.

no matter what rogers does for the remainder of his career, this incident is him... I would like to see him end up like John Rocker... nobody wants him, he grows his hair out trying to disguise himself... and then quits baseball all together... Then maybe he'll open a chain of restaurants selling chicken....

posted by playball9 at 09:43 AM on July 19, 2005

playball9, I wouldn't wish Rocker's fate on anyone. Besides, I don't see how Kenny is evil or a monster, or in need of the Witness Protection Program. He just let the microscope life of being a struggling major leaguer on the tail-end of his career get to him, with no help whatsoever from a nosy headline-seeking cameraman. He might not win Miss Congeniality, but frankly, neither would anyone in this thread. If you were always sunny and pleasant, even at the whimper-not-a-bang end of an up and down career, in a year when you're struggling and the press is on your case and up in your face at every moment, then (to paraphrase Lewis Black) you, sir, are the one with anger issues.

He turned himself into police? That's a neat trick.

Is this guy ever going to get it?

You just look at him and know he is ready to explode at any moment. He just has that stone faced look that says, "Don't f*** with me". I think the other bad part about Kenny is that he has the Players Association fighting his 20 game suspension because Bud did it and not Bob Watson. You messed up, now take your punishment like a man.

How does a jackass like that with a demonstrated lack of self control throw a perfect game?

David Wells agrees with Kenny!

did you see the look on his face when he was talking to the cameraman that guy has lost it

I think it's clear that Kenny Rogers' anger issues stem from sharing a name with Kenny Rogers, much like Michael Bolton in Office Space.

I don't think the story is dying because Kenny won't let it. We all saw what he did yesterday. If they hadn't been in the police station, he would have freaked out again on that cameraman. Then to make matters worse, he is fighting his suspension. It figures David Wells would agree with Kenny. He is a bit off center as well.

I'm confused. He was threatening the guy taking the police photos? 'Cause that is fucking great. "Turn to the right!" "... Oh I see how it is. You must be pretty proud of yourself, huh?" "Turn to the right!" "Just doing your job, eh? That's your excuse. If it weren't for people like me, you wouldn't have your job." "...... Got me there."

I think we should legalize hunting any press/ photographers. I wouldnt open it to the general public, but for famous people. As citizens we love the storys that they bring to us, but I would like them to earn the story. Lets say a camera man is "just doing his job" and following a celebrity/ athlete. I think that celebrity/ athlete (or their security) shoule be able to do what ever they want to somebody that is stalking them.

......the story is dying It is dead, but the press has to keep kicking the corpse because it is really about them.

I think we should legalize hunting any press/ photographers. If Tom Sizemore and Mel Gibson's photographer have taught us anything, it's that.

The best I think we can hope for in this situation is that Ashton Kutcher shows up to punk Kenny Rogers, fakes being a cameraman and Rogers snaps his neck. That's pretty much a happy ending all around.

posted by wfrazerjr at 03:11 PM on July 19, 2005

Punkd, oh my god that would be funny. Kenny standing over the actor with blood on his hands, and Ashton staring at him as he turns white. We should make the calls and get this in motion.

posted by BubbaG at 03:33 PM on July 19, 2005

Whew...for a second there, I thought somebody had called Ashton Kutcher an actor. That freaked me out a little bit, I must admit. I'm with Weedy on this one...watching Rogers get fingerprinted, talking trash while some fat-bottomed deputy processes him, I really expected him to just go Terminator through that whole police station. You could tell he wanted to...

So if you climb into someone's back yard, and poke their dog with a stick, and then get bit , it's the bad dogs fault, right? Since when do the Police let TV crews in when they book a MISDEMEANOR charge? Shame on the Police Dept., for fanning the flames. Does the average person who can't afford bail for a traffic ticket, get the same coverage? If it was me, I think I'd be a little pissed off too, think about it if it WERE you.

If it were me, and I were making the money that Kenny Rogers is making, TO PLAY BASEBALL, fer chrissakes, I wouldn't be putting my hands on anybody in the first place. I feel the same way any time any athlete does something stupid. Millions of us normal people would love that kind of life (not to mention that kind of money!) and would learn to deal with the press, the fans, et al, if not with class, then at least with maturity, and not by acting like a petulant jackass. I'm sorry, but I have no sympathy at all for Kenny Rogers, or for the pampered athletes, movie stars, singers, etc. that act like this. Screw 'em all.

With apologies... In my previous post, please substitute "illegal" for "stupid." Sorry for any confusion.

So you have never recieved a traffic ticket, you thought you didn't deserve? Was there a Media team there to film you as you entered the Police station? This was Not some fat deputy with a camera. Everything I've seen so far is from the news media. The same paper as the ALLEGED victim, I might add.

Am I the only one who is tired of this story and wish that Kenny Rogers would just just up and go away Well, no. But then again, that's probably why I haven't posted anything else about it to SpoFi, drawing attention to it.

The media is a cancer that is slowly eating away at the greatest nation in the world (America for you liberal retards). Any of you that think athletes owe us anything for the money they make are way out of line. I think they make more money than they can spend, but they are the main ingredient in a product that is worth what they are paid. Should we pay them less and give the money to Africa or some other 3rd world country that is too ignorant to take care of them selves. Maybe we should end hunger with that money. I love all the people who think that athletes and celebritys belong to them.

posted by BubbaG at 10:43 AM on July 20, 2005

volfire, I respectfully disagree. In my mind, your example is a world away from what Kenny Rogers did. And besides, if I'm Kenny Rogers, and I'm already in trouble in the court of public opinion (and very possibly the court of legal opinion as well), and I'm being filmed while a deputy processes me, I wouldn't start talking trash to a cameraman in a room full of cops, all of whom probably already know that I'm there being processed in the first place because I beat up a cameraman. Sorry, but you won't convince me that Kenny Rogers isn't a punk. I appreciate your point...I just don't share it.
