"I'm an animal? You're an animal Larry!": Well, now we know why Larry and Joe Dumars kept meeting without coming to a decision. They were negotiating a buyout. Larry Brown is no longer coach of the Pistons.

Why the buyout, because of his health? Would a GM position really be that less stressful if he joined another team in that capacity? Hubie Brown just dropped out entirely and went into TV, which apparently he has been able to handle.

Why the buyout, because of his health? More likely because Larry was stumping for the Cleveland job while still under the employ of the Pistons. Larry did not have the green light to look for another position at any point during his tenure with the Pistons. This fact in and of itself should have brought his buyout number down (one would hope). Then there is this choice nugget:

"Since the Chicago pre-draft camp in early June it's been well circulated throughout the league that Brown has been trying to secure jobs in Cleveland for three of his current assistant coaches -- Dave Hanners, Phil Ford and Pat Sullivan -- should he leave Detroit."
Technically, this in and of itself, is not tampering. However, if this lobbying was done under the aegis of "acting" as Cleveland's GM, there would be some major splaining to do. Would a GM position really be that less stressful if he joined another team in that capacity? No. See Jerry West.

me:Would a GM position really be that less stressful if he joined another team in that capacity? No. See Jerry West. Which is why, since Larry Brown is obviously going for a GM position, the health issue sounds to me like a PR-orchestrated red herring.

I dont know what do think. You have Brown's "wandering" reputaion and then you have all of the "junk" comingfrom the Media. Its really hard to know what is going on. We may not know the whole story until this all blows over.

More likely because Larry was stumping for the Cleveland job while still under the employ of the Pistons. Why on earth did Dumars give the Cavaliers permission to talk with Brown during the playoffs? Dumars could have said no, talk to him after the playoffs. When Dumars gave permission, he knew, of course, that the Cavs were going to talk with Brown about a job. Dumars also knows that Davidson is a loyalty nut. So did Dumars grease the skids to oust Brown? Something to think about.

to: larry brown fr: a piston fan thanks for the championship, larry. now, have fun on your return to moving about without much direction, from team to team to team. i do thank you--you led my superstar-less pistons to a title and then to another championship series. i never expected anything like that. the triumph over the lakers a year ago was something of myth. but let me this: you will not be a good GM, nor will you enjoy it. you have been prone to tossing players into the dog house, and you've never been a good judge of talent, nor a patient one ... though you are a darn good coach. best of luck--but it'll be good for everyone involved ... my pistons need less drama from a coach and a few shifts in players to try to upgrade for years to come. i wish you the best, especially in terms of your health. piston fan

Nicely said, Ramon ... I would have added -- PS: Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.

Remember that whe the Pistons were seeking Brown for the Job-they already have a coach and Larry was coaching the Sixers. You could say "what goes around comes around!"

No matter how much Larry brings to the table, you got to respect his game... true, he probably wont be the best GM but he could turn many teams around in the league. And since my man Mr. Thomas likes to spend money on hype, please Larry come and bring some of your magic to my beloved Knicks. Because seriously, Herb Williams! come on, just because your in the league for 100 years doesnt give you the right to coach.

I gotta go with Ramon here: Brown would be an awful GM because he's too mercurial. Isn't he supposed to be President of Operations in Cleveland though?

Aw, Larry does what Larry does - I don't think there's much point in trying to understand it. He likes moving around and trying new things, but I do think that the health issue isn't overstated. The man was wearing a catheter on the bench this year. Hey, if I had to worry about pissing my pants at work, I'd want my office to have a door and a few less cameras.

Remember that whe the Pistons were seeking Brown for the Job-they already have a coach and Larry was coaching the Sixers. You could say "what goes around comes around!" There is some talk that Dumars allowed the Cavs to meet with Larry in order to create the "Larry has wandering eyes" situation. Which would make the Pistons look less shitty then when they got rid of Carlisle. See Joe is learning. And as his prize he might be about to land Flip Saunders. Has Joe wrapped up Exec of the Year for '06 yet? Isn't he supposed to be President of Operations in Cleveland though? Nope. Once Larry got caught with his pants down during the Finals the Cavs went with Danny Ferry instead. how come when these fuckers get fired they get millions of dollars... Because they had already agreed upon a guaranteed contract. Once both sides decide to split they must negotiate a buyout. Simple no? why do fuckin millionaires have unions... Players have unions. Refs have unions. Coaches generally do not.
