Talks between NBA and players'union collapse: Is the NBA headed for a lock out? Will it be as bad as the NHL?

I'd be surprised if it leads to a work stoppage. Plenty of people on both sides have (or at least should have) clear memories of the last one, and having the spectacle of the NHL lockout has to be sort of like a messy corpse for them to look over at nervously.

Yes. No.

The NHL is making itself an cautionary example for all leagues for the next few decades. Even baseball in '94 has faded against it. In that light, there's no way an NBA lockout lasts longer than a few days.

Nah; every league will tell themselves 'we were in much better shape before the strike than they were' (which would be true) and believe they can stick it out. That said, a strike wouldn't kill me- more attention on the college game would be just fine for me. (Unless of course a strike meant all of UNC's guys could come back to school, in which case... please wait a year, guys :)

lets see the NBA end up like the NHL is. I think it would great for America to see it happen. Not many people may care about hockey, but they do care about baketball.

I would agree that any lock-out wuold be very short. It is just so funny that a few months ago Commish. Stern was sure that the contract talks would go smoothly.

does anyone agree with me?

I think the players would concede everything before they let that happen. The bulk of players in the NBA make near the league minimum. Most of the big, contentious issues are those that affect the superstars. That was some of the problem with the last lockout -- the stars and the rest of the NBA have very different concerns.
