8 Ways To Improve The NFL: It seems like everybody can suggest 8 ways to improve the NFL, and about 6 of these ways are always the same ideas.

If you had to pick one to agree with and one to disagree with, what would they be? I disagree with more of them than I agree with, but it was a fun read. I'd go YES with The Ground Can Cause A Fumble, and NO with No More Fair Catches. I think a chop block is less likely to freaking kill someone than No More Fair Catches.

I love the one Pass interference is a max 15 yard penalty. The spot of the foul yardage is excessive and interferes with just playing the game. I strongly disagree with the No More Fair Catches and the One Foot in is a Catch. I agree about the injuries with the former. Guys coming full speed at this guy standing still while he isn't even looking at them because he is trying to make a catch. That would be crazy. As to the latter rule, I think it is too easy for them to get one foot in. That rule would defeat the purpose of making it harder for the offense. I am conflicted about the OT one. While I think something has to change, when they are taking turns with the ball in college, it just doesn't seem like real football. It might be better to have the coin toss and have them play for 10 minutes and whoever is winning at that point is the winner -- NBA style. I have one of my own about letting the quarterback get hit after he has thrown the ball. Football is a hitting game. Some of those calls are so petty.

I'm right with you on not liking One Foot In and being conflicted about overtime. But pass interference.. . .why wouldn't the defender just automatically interfere with a long catch that looks like a sure thing and take the 15 yards instead of the 45? Hmm.

The OT one is so long overdue.

The CFL has no fair catches - and protects the players by instituting a mandatory 5-yard buffer around the returner until the catch is made - or there's a resulting penalty. It really means more kicks run back - not really about the bonecrushing, eyeball removing hits. Though they're good too. The OT one is absolutely necessary.

the only change to overtime i will accept is to get rid of the flip. treat it exactly like time expiring in the 1st and 3rd quarters. cut blocking, i would say ok. all the rest, silly.

I always thought pass interference should have two offenses like facemask does. One that is an intentional catch saving interference and henceforth spot the ball where the interference took place and another which is more incidental and could be a 10 or 15 yard penalty and a 1st down.

Nobody would watch baseball if, after nine innings, a coin was tossed and the winning team started the inning with a guy on third base...and yet, this is how its done in the NFL. Something needs to change. My preference would simply to have another 15 minute quarter...and keep having them until someone is ahead at the end. I also like Ricardo's idea for a bifurcated pass interference.

...if, after nine innings, a coin was tossed and the winning team started the inning with a guy on third ... I see where you're going with this, but please reread what you typed...

The No Fun League needs to return to it's past. First, eliminate In The Grasp and other protect the quarterback nonsense beyond established rules. It's full contact like it's mother, rugby.Next to go is over-long games and overtime.Games should be 60-75 minutes.Too many injuries from fatigue and exhaustion. Overtime should only in play-offs for the same reason. Celebrations should be celebrations, not penalties. Within rule and common sense it adds to the game That is my quarter.Make the call.
