Start spreadin' the news. : Randy Johnson "got a little physical" with a TV cameraman in New York today, and was heard to say, "No cameras. Don't get in my face. I don't care who you are...Don't get in my face, and don't talk back to me, all right."

Methinks the Big Unit has a few things to learn about life in the Big City...

God, I love baseball. How awesome is it that the Yankees traded their best young pitcher for a 42 year old head case with no knees? My latest trade idea is this: let the Mets pass on Delgado and Sosa - take Giambi from the Yankees along w/ 15M a year.

Video here, though it seems to be an IE-only plugin. See what happens when you join the Empire? He should have hooked on with the Mets, where all the stable personalities hang out.

well, i can't say i'm shocked. we know he's an ornery sumbitch. i'd prefer that he not try to change his ways too much like clemens tried to do when he came here. i don't remember that working out too well for roger. prince valium, don't you mean a stable of personalities?

Don't talk back to me? Sheesh. This is going to be one entertaining meltdown.

Steinbrenner loves headcases: -Eric Plunk -Strawberry -Canseco -Sierra (he seems to have made a complete recovery) -Clemens -Brown -Teh Unit Why, George, why do you insist on runnin' with these bad boys who are only gonna break your heart?

Johnson said. "I am very sorry it happened." Not, "I'm sorry about what I did." or "I'm sorry I acted that way." or even "I'm sorry my reaction was so poor." No, he's sorry that it happened, no guilt implied.

HE gets payed to play baseball not to talk to reporters or camera-men. leave him alone

Hey David, the funny part is how the linked article ends. Did you read the whole thing? I'll save you the click-though: Johnson is scheduled to appear Tuesday on CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman."

20-25 wins and 2 more each in the ALDS, ALCS, and WS (with a save on short rest thrown in somewhere in the playoffs) from now and no one will give a shit about a nosy f'n camera crew. Though the irony of a media recluse, who thought the Phoenix media was mean, going to NY will crack me up every day of his big fat contract.

Hey Randy, you're not in Phoenix anymore.

Welcome to New York, Mr. Johnson! Why doesnt this comes a surprize??

You know if the NY Media blows things out of porportion everytime Randy is Grumpy, it could be a long season. On the other hand, The Big Unit may have to learn how to smile!

You know if the NY Media blows things out of porportion everytime Randy is Grumpy, it could be a long season. Or, put another way, New York's clearly a tougher media town than what Mr. Johnson is used to -- and if he doesn't grow a somewhat thicker skin, it'll be an amusing season for some and a very long season for him.

it'll be an amusing season for some and a very long season for him. that is until pedro does something stupid or beltran has a bad week.

Sounds like the Post and News backpage copy writers will have an easy job this summer!

I don't think this is going to venture in to the cautionary tale status of Ed Whitson or Hideki Irabu territory quite yet... Johnson is very private and NYC is very public, so that will take some adjustment for him though for sure...but I wouldn't put him on the "eaten up by NYC media list just yet...not until Steinbrenner calls him a name like "fat pussy toad" too. (the best part of that clip is the "welcome to New York...")

Of course Randy knows that the media circus wil be that much greater in New York. That's why he's establishing the ground rules for talking to Randy Johnson before the season starts. Ergo, you take his picture without his espress written permission and he'll fuck you up. Right there, right then.

posted by WeedyMcSmokey at 11:01 AM on January 11, 2005

obviously that's meant to read: "Ergo if you take his picture without his espresso, AND written permission, he'll fuck you up." I don't pretend to understand it either.

posted by WeedyMcSmokey at 11:05 AM on January 11, 2005

Do not make eye contact with Mr. Johnson... Do not speak to Mr. Johnson unless spoken to... Do not take pictures of Mr. Johnson... Do not talk back to Mr. Johnson... That should cover it.

posted by chris2sy at 11:05 AM on January 11, 2005

Dear Randy, If you don't want the television people bothering you, please give back the portion of your contract directly raised by the Yankees' ginormous television revenues. Or fuck off. Either one. Love, frazer

No one likes my Giambi to Mets idea?

No one likes my Giambi to Mets idea? I like it fine. I'm not so sure the Mets are over the moon about it, though.

I hate the NY Post, but I have to admit, that was a great cover today.
