Don't miss field goals in the CFL: Saskatchewan Roughrider Paul McCallum missed an 18 yard field field goal in overtime that would have won his team's playoff game, and his "house was later pelted with eggs and a load of manure was dumped off." A fan was charged with threatening to burn McCallum's house down.

har har. stronger than it has been in years. FWIW, the field goal wouldn't have WON the game for them since CFL overtime operates on an equal posessions format rather than a sudden death. so when he missed the field goal they got one point (given that the ball did not come back out of the end zone, as per CFL rules). BC had one drive to try and better the one point and they did with a converted field goal. exciting game.

Between the pretty long and storied history of football in the area, and the fact that there's nothing else to do in Regina in the summertime (it's absolutely gorgeous there, but uneventful), Roughies fans tend to be fairly hardcore. Still, this is bizarre.

It was an awesome game. We watch sports for the extremes; the amazing, and the awful. Too bad about the fans though.

I'm hoping at some point we can have a thread about the CFL without someone coming in and dumping on it. All the egging and threats prove is what we already knew -- there are just as many morons per capita in Canada as there are in the US.

CFL is legit. The football is legit, the players are legit and the fans, are well, just as crazy as anyone elses. Frankly, sudden death overtime in football always seemed to me to be an excerise in taking a great game and turning it into a coin flip - so I like the CFL model better. McCallum did blow it though - that was a chip shot he missed.

Seems to me, and I say this in a positive way, that the CFL is kinda like MLS in relation to EPL/La Liga. Good in its own way, not the best, but getting stronger and with interesting differences.

Joe Thiesman also started his career in the CFL. And the CFL has been around longer than the NFL.

Yeah, plus the Grey Cup is a better trophy than the Vince Lombardi trophy. If only because you can drink out of it.
