Washington Warriors?: The Washington City Paper is speculating that the Redskins will be changing their name [via Slate]

Danny Snyder originally registered the Warriors name for an arena football team, but it doesn't look like he'll be starting an arena league team anytime soon. Also, the Redskins' new throwback uniforms feature the logo that Snyder originally introduced as the arena league's logo.

Interesting that Marquette changed their name FROM the Warriors in 1995 to be more PC. I guess compared to Redskin, Warrior is OK with the PC crowd. Everything is relative. Maybe Snyder didn't like the sound of the Washington Golden Eagles.

I think a name change is long overdue, and I can't understand why the Cleveland Indians continue to use that ridiculously racist Chief Wahoo logo. If it was a Sambo character, it would've been changed years ago. I don't think the Redskins will change their name unless the trademark board's decision is upheld by the courts. The use of the new uniforms and logos seems to be a smart fallback strategy in the event that they can't trademark Redskins any longer.

When I first read "Washington Warriors" I thought that maybe the Golden State Warriors would be leaving NorCal. I'm disappointed to see that's not what the story's about.

I missed this one entirely. The City Paper does good work. Man, that would be great if The Danny changed the name. Ever see the Chris Rock routine on this? Equating the Redskin name to the New York Niggers. It sure raised my conciousness.
