Happy Bobby Bonilla day!

The thing about the Bonilla annuity payout deal that gets me isn't the length of term, but the negotiated interest rate of 8%.

That's a damn fine rate of return. There are lots of steady, non-aggressive investors who would be very satisfied with that annual rate of return.

Happy Free Agent Frenzy Day!

Happy Canada Day to all.

I was watching the Red Sox vs Blue Jays game this afternoon, and the pre-game ceremonies were broadcast. They were really nice, the teams were wearing special uniforms (Canada Day for the Jays, July 4 for Boston - their socks were cool, red & white stripes on one leg and solid blue on the other), pipes and drums for the music, a salute to veterans and active duty Canadian Forces, and a good rendition of both anthems.

As the giant flag was being carried to the outfield and unfurled, the pipes were playing "The Maple Leaf Forever". My Nova Scotian dad used to sing this all the time, and he insisted that it should have been the Canadian National Anthem instead of "Oh Canada".

Chris Sale pitched for Boston. Watching him pitch is what it might have been like listening to Beethoven compose one of his piano sonatas.

The game was a 7 - 1 Boston blowout win. This caused my warped mind to think of a the many advertising circulars that come in the mail telling of "Blowout Sales". I wonder why the tire companies never advertise a blowout sale.

That's enough nonsense for now. Once again, happy sesquicentennial, Canada.
