Germany Closes Down France in World Cup: Germany scored on a Mats Hummels header in the 12th minute and that was all it needed in a 1-0 victory over France in the World Cup quarterfinals. The win makes Germany the first country to reach the semifinals in four straight World Cups. France had a late chance as Karim Benzema launched a final-minute strike in the box, but German keeper Manuel Neuer got a hand on it. An ESPNFC writer was disappointed by the French effort, calling the game "one of the more turgid affairs of this consistently excellent tournament."

Klose is starting! Didn't expect that.

Me neither! I think I'm cheering for France in the game, but I'd love to see Klose get another goal.

Everyone else gets the Mesut Ozil = Peter Lorre vibe, right?

Definitely more open than the previous round, but also a pretty obvious gap in class and creativity.

I'm pretty sure that Özil plays worse when he's in Hair Gel mode, compared to his classic Dickensian Urchin look, which reappeared during that rainy match earlier in the tournament.

As long as you'll indulge my Toni Kroos = Dr. Mabuse trip.

Moe and Curly admit that they don't know where Keith Richards is.

Also, Klinsmann promises that his team will be in better shape in 2018.

One person in Paris was happy with the result.
