Enter SportsFilter's World Cup 2014 Confidence Pool: We're running a confidence pool for the World Cup, a contest in which you give all 32 teams a point value from 32 to 1 and receive points each time they win or tie in the tournament. The first prize is an Adidas Brazuca Glider Soccer Ball.

This contest is using new code I just added to the site. If you have any problems creating an entry, let me know your browser, browser version and the error you encountered. It is supposed to make you pick all 32 teams once before you can submit your entry.

When the contest begins there will be a standings page and each player's picks will be public.

Done!

It looks like you got all 32 teams entered successfully from Australia (32 points) down to Portugal (1). Interesting strategy.

After an entry has been submitted, it can be reviewed. There will be a permanent link to that posted soon.

Did I misread the instructions?

I assumed that you wanted to put the highest point value on the teams you think will win. Most points wins the Pool, right?

Grum didn't actually put Australia at 32 and Portugal at 1. Sorry. I was joshing.

Yes, you put the highest 32 points on the team you most think will win and the lowest 1 point on the team you least think will win. Most points win the pool.

I'm in. Too many teams to guess right so my thing is a bit of a mess in the middle but it's ok.

Would be great if the picks page had a list on the right that was updated as you selected teams on the left. Or even updating the dropdown list to remove the selected teams. I could write you some JS if you like.

That would be handy for the next time we run a pool. I only had 12 hours to code this so I couldn't do some cool things with the form. It does have validation to make sure you pick all 32 teams once.

Would you use JQuery for that?

I'm in. And anyone who finishes below me has brought shame on their family.

What did you do with the other 12?

Ha! Minecraft.

Entered a while ago, predicted a hometown victory, though I would like USA to win

Thanks for coding this, rcade. Unlike the others, I found this easy to use, especially if you KEEP A FRIGGIN LIST OF THE GROUPS handy.

Seriously, people, this is the World Cup. Haven't you got wall charts and TV schedules posted up on every available surface at work and home? Sheesh.

And yes, I did put Australia second last. There's a Brazuca at stake. Business is business.

In. Let's go Switzerland!

Thanks for setting this up rcade.

Yes, @rcade, jQuery would do the trick. Do you plan to post the code to, say, Github?

posted by billsaysthis at 10:34 AM on June 12, 2014

That's the plan. The database stuff needs to be pulled out of SportsFilter's code base, but otherwise it's standalone.

Fixtures will do for sample data.
