Hoping to circle the wagons on this and cut the Yahoos! off at the pass, here's Dave Zirin's response to Rick Reilly's latest choking smoke signal.

2 days, 2 games from Europe on my tv that were over in the first 10 minutes (Barcelona, Swansea). Hoping Tottenham/ Tromso makes things more interesting.

So much for that idea.

Why do the New York Jets use no plane iconography in their logo or anywhere else? I like the team's classic look, but the lack of a nod to the mascot is strange.

Shockingly, Prince Fielder likes nachos...

The Jets did incorporate a plane-like design motif when they changed their whole look in the late 70's / early 80's.

Most Jets fans probably associate that newfangled green helmet "whoosh" look with none other than the immortal Ken O'Brien.

I think they ran with that second generation Jets design for about 20 years or so, until somebody felt bad about having abandoned the old legacy of Namath and Super Bowl III, at which point they went retro and brought back a refreshed version of their classic duds.

That somebody might have been The Tuna. Or maybe ownership. What's weird is that the Giants went through the same style evolution in just about the same time frame.

"You suck, asshole", the American translation of "you're shit, aaaah", now considered harmful by MLS; the NYT does its delicate best not to spell it out.
