MLB suspends Ryan Braun for remainder of season: The suspension takes place immediately, so Braun will be suspended for the final 65 games of the season, beginning with the Brewers' game Monday night at Miller Park against San Diego. The sanction came as a result of MLB's investigatiion into the infamous Biogenesis clinic, which was exposed as having sold PEDs to players after documents were released to various news agencies earlier this year. The suspension also exposed Braun as a liar because he has stated many times that he never used PEDs and never wavered from that stance. He recently told reporters, "The truth hasn't changed," referring to ongoing speculation that he would be suspended for PED use.

The first of many liars to be exposed over the next year, I'm afraid.

Should we just assume everyone is juicing, instead of building up these guys just to tear them down? Jeez, I will be crushed to death if Miggy is ever even implicated in any PED use...

This is a good deal for the Brewers, Braun, and MLB. The MLB is able to hit Braun with a suspension longer than 50 games and they get to avoid a prolonged appeals process. Braun is able to avoid the same while also missing far fewer games than what the league was rumored to be seeking. The Brewers are not going anywhere this season anyways, so they are fortunate to not lose their star for any time next year.

I imagine Braun accepting a suspension means they have some strong evidence against the players. It will be interesting to watch the rest of the suspensions come down.

I don't think we're there yet. This is player number 67 suspended since 2004 under this policy who was on a major league roster - you have between 750-1200 players on major league rosters each year. This will certainly jack the number up significantly, but it would still be a significant minority in relation to the number of players in MLB.

I don't know. Maybe it's all apocryphal, but I keep hearing reports of pitchers hitting guys who they think are cheating and things like that. So there must be at least two sides in the game and hopefully the good side wins out and cleans up their clubhouses.

Maybe I am just so fed up with how the media spins it, but I have a hard time taking the stories about self-policing seriously. It probably is just the media's endless nostalgic sanctimony.
