Step 1: Find athlete with previously untainted image that gets into legal trouble.
Step 2: Print up merchandise cashing in on controversy and press.
Step 3: Profit!

I find the lot of this very disturbing.

Nice work billy! I think you misspelled his surname. I think its 'Findgold'. I got the chills from seeing those t-shirts. As someone recently referenced here, 'ponderous, effing ponderous.' Visual marks 3 weeks later. Dude, get a grip! 'Save Kobe from his wife' is what the shirt should say.

and the logo is dumb. okay, the basketball going through the hoop has some hair on it which turns it into a Kobe head/basketball with a halo above it ... but WTF if the second basketball underneath it? Lame and scummy.

I think the two stacked balls are supposed to represent the '8' on his jersey. Just a guess though.

hahhaha! Wish i had thought of it...

Yeah, that's pretty low. And terribly uncreative. I always thought Kobe's image would be tarnished by something much more phreaky - like a tranvestite mange et trois. But rape? That's so 1992, Kobe. Where's the style? It's like 'been there, done that (and now) bought the t-shirt'. The thong, though, that's glorious bad taste. Glorious.

Grafield, I'd go with that guess. Makes more sense than anything I could come up with (ie Kobe = 2 tiered angleic basketball snowman guy)?

Enough with the 'sexual assualt' language already. Lets call it what it is: Rape. The Prosecution should enter this term into the public realm asap. I'm surprised the guy isn't selling, well, stuff that rapists use. 'Get your Kobe Rohypnol, Now 33.3% stronger! Order discreetly over the phone at (NOM)EAN-SYES, or at www.shewontknowitwasyou.com, and received your shipment anonymously in less than 10 business days. Don't delay, because you if you're reading this, you need the help to get laid!'

Are you all really that shocked? Disappointed I can see. Yes, rape bad, nobody will dispute that. But this is the warts of capitalism. People crash planes into buildings, flag manufacturers increase production tenfold, and gas stations start charging $5.00 for a gallon of gas and $10.00 for a gallon of water. People sell "Ted Toast Sandwiches" outside a prison when Ted Bundy gets electrocuted. With freedom, you get a complementary side of opportunity.

vito, I think this post is just 'opportunity' manifesting itself yet again: Findgold is free to be a retarded soulless capitalist, and I'm free to expose his true nature.

posted by garfield at 03:22 PM on July 23, 2003

soulless capitalist - right up to the edge of redundancy without quite crossing the line, and this is from a guy with an all-business background. In Communist Russia, Kobe shirt designs you.

"Because we're running out of heroes" aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh! no! stupid stupid stupid. such a cheesy, low class way to try to make a buck. what a strange dictionary Mr. Feingold has, apparently it defines hero as "man who cheats on his wife" listen, believe what you want to believe, side with whomever you want, but don't be such an ignoramus to profit off someone who is [at the very least] guilty of cheating on his wife, the mother if his infant child. Kobe is not a hero. He's a terrific basketball player and he may have been a role model because of his celebrity stature and reputation, but no more. Adultery doesn't seem to be a big deal to everyone anymore. But lately it would seem that people don't seem to take sexual assault very seriously anymore, either.

Good thing for Mr. Feingold that he doesn't use Kobe's image on any of the products. And by the way, have any of you checked out some of the complete BS he and his 'partners' have been spouting in the press (as linked on their press page)?

I haven't seen it, but I wonder if he plans to donate some of the profits to the Kobe Defense Fund. Also — how much do you think Kobe's wife will ask for in the divorce next year?
