Adam Greenberg Will Get His At-Bat: The campaign to get Adam Greenberg another chance at bat has succeeded. On Oct. 2, the Miami Marlins will sign him to a one-day contract and he'll face the New York Mets in Miami. Seven years ago, Greenberg was beaned by the first pitch he saw as a Chicago Cubs player, suffered post-concussion syndrome and never reached the Majors again. The team pitching to him that day was the Marlins.

I was against this idea (as I didn't like a legitimate player losing a spot on the 40-man roster), but since it's going to happen anyways, there are only two results that would make me happy:

1) He hits a home run.
2) He gets plunked in the ass.

2) He gets plunked in the ass.

Why would that make you happy?

Why would that make you happy?

Because it would be a very funny result. All these years of trying to get back, and he gets plunked AGAIN?

Besides, it would make him unique. There are 7 players in baseball history who have been hit by a pitch in their only career plate appearance.

No one has ever been plunked in their TWO plate appearances.

I hope he hits a home run into that kitschy monstrosity in center field, buys a Powerball lottery ticket on the way home and it wins.

Someone on Twitter asked, "What if he walks"? I suppose a sacrifice would be the same problem, but even Ozzie wouldn't ask him to do that.

grum, you are a master at finding statistics, records, and the like, but I must say that the table you present above is incomplete. Nowhere does it say which, if any, of those players was plunked in the ass. Please try to do better. ;>)

1) He hits a home run. 2) He gets plunked in the ass.

Don Baylor's goal was to do both in the same at bat.

That would be something if he happened to get beaned again (and no, I'm not saying I want that to happen). I'd rather they send him some 70 mph pitches right down the middle so he can get a hit, and hopefully move on with his life.

Greenberg went down on three straight knuckleballs.

The only other player to get hit in his only at-bat and never take the field, Fred Van Dusen of the '55 Phillies, threw out the first pitch.
