Is it the guy from the Tiger Woods photo?

AFC Wimbledon won their playoff final against Luton Town and now enter the Football League, nine years after being formed in the wake of Wimbledon FC's move to Milton Keynes. Now the two clubs are only a division apart.

Well the Lightning came back from a 3 goal deficit in the first period to beat the Bruins. They totally changed the complexion of the game in the second period by putting a ton of pressure on Boston and it paid off. What a game.

Shackleford wins the Preakness, so the Triple Crown gets to wait another year. Almost Arthurian at this point.

Aye, I was at a tavern awaiting the proclaimed End of Days under the best possible circumstances.

As the afternoon progressed, it became clear that the Almighty was perhaps going to spare the majority of humanity from the Rapture and instead focus his doomsday resources solely on the icemen of Boston and their followers.

Foolish mortals, skating along with a cozy 3 goal lead on the road, playing against a team named after an act of God.

If Harold Camping had wanted to make a sure-fire prophecy, he should've said that Jose Bautista would hit a homer or two on this day.

I don't think there is a real story. It's some random fan that is wearing Uggs in Miami heckling players. He just looks ridiculous and people have noticed.

Webber stopped The Vettel's pole run today.

In today's Blue Jays game, Bautista hit a home run (2, actually), stole a base, and got an outfield assist. This is, in my mind, the baseball equivalent of a "Gordie Howe hat trick" (in hockey, that's a goal, assist, and a fight). It shows that the player can hit, run, and field.

I guess we could call it a "Willie Mays hat trick".

I wondered how many of these have happened this season?

Well, it's happened 2 other times:

Adam Jones - April 7th
Ben Zobrist - April 24th

I then wondered if anyone has ever hit for a cycle, drawn a walk, stole a base, and got an outfield assist. This would pretty much be the best it gets for a player.

The answer is, yes:

Kiki Cuyler - June 4, 1925

(side note: the performance is slightly marred by the fact that he was also caught stealing in the same game)

Oddly, I believe I read somewhere this year that Gordie Howe never had a Gordie Howe hat trick.

That's awesome. I've often wondered the exact opposite; how bad of a game it could be. Off the top of my head:

- Strikeout - Caught stealing - Ground into DP - Error

Plus, no positive stats (no hits, no steals, no outfield assists). They might get on base through sacrifice or being hit by a pitch, but nothing they earned.

How would one figure that out, Grum? You seem the expert in this sort of scenario building.

It's tough to search for fielding results, as that isn't currently organized in the Baseball Reference Play Index. There aren't many things on the web that I pay an annual fee for, but this is one of them.

As for the worst game you can have?
How about an out, double-play, and a triple-play for your three plate appearances? (Ron Wright, check top for the 4th inning for the triple-play)
And what if that's the ONLY GAME YOU EVER PLAY IN THE MAJORS?!

As for the K/CS/GIDP/Error combo, it's happened once this season (so far):

John Jaso - May 1 (but he also got two hits)

I read somewhere this year that Gordie Howe never had a Gordie Howe hat trick.

A couple weeks back, the announcers on Versus (grain of salt alert) said that he did it once.

Awesome grum, thanks for that. I've been building some bad games (Alex Gonzalez going 0/6 with 6K, Joe Torre's 0/4 with 4 GIDP and a fielding error) and it's been a rather productive (*cough*) use of my time.
