Benches Clear During Spring Training Game: Managers Tony La Russa and Jim Riggleman had to be separated when both benches cleared Monday during a spring training game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals. Cardinals reliever Miguel Batista hit Nats batter Ian Desmond, his teammate last year, and they exchanged words. "Yeah, it was intentional, but I mean Miggy throws like Miss Iowa," Desmond said after the game.

This is at least the second Nat player to get all fired up about being hit during spring training. Riggleman must have given them some giant "The league doesn't respect us" pep talk at the start of the season. Good luck.

""Ian is a great kid. I'm glad I didn't hit him in the wrong spot," Batista said. "

Hahahahahaha!

I think at this point, the joke has grown old for Miss Iowa and she wants guys to come up with something a bit more thoughtful and imaginative if they want to get her attention.

Every time I see a headline that reads: "Cardinals' Bench Clears", my first thought is that rcade is over in Rome asking for a manual recount.

Get rid of Pope Ben? After he singlehandedly revived the Sheriff Woody hat for men's fashion?

Thanks, rcade, I'm going to need to sleep with the light on for a month after seeing that picture.

His lips appear unnaturally red...perhaps from gorging himself on the blood of the innocents.
