NFL Pick 'em and Confidence Pool, Conference Round RESULTS: Results are in for the NFL Pick 'em and Confidence pool after the Conference Round. A pair of exciting games today, and some interesting results in our two pools!

First, the Confidence Pool results:

owlhouse takes a commanding lead after the Conference Round- so much so that with the most balanced points going into the Superbowl, owlhouse has already mathematically clinched the 2011 Sportsfilter NFL Playoff Confidence Pool Championship!

Big congratulations to the "Thunder from Down Under" himself, the mighty owlhouse- who only entered the Confidence Pool "just so it's a contest". Modest words from the Nostradamus of the NFL!

Along with that, good luck to MrFrisby who is in a fierce battle with yours truly for the second place position, and to bender and tahoemoj who are in an epic struggle for the fabled "Costanza" position. Good luck boys, and may the worst man win!

Below are the standings heading into the Superbowl as well as the points each player still has on the two teams that are playing.

Next, the Pick 'Em results:

With a huge week of 13 points, tommytrump jumps into the lead with 22, including nearly nailing the rushing leader with his guess of 164! tron7 and hincandenza (that's me!) put in a very respectable 10 and 11 respectively this week to keep a close second at 21 each. Newcomer bender had a hell of a first week with 10- perhaps you should have been playing all along, bender!

  • Green Bay, Under, 7, 4th minute/1st Q, TD
  • Pittsburgh, Over, 5, 9th minute/1st Q, TD
  • Rushing Leader: Pittsburgh, 166
  • Passing Leader: Green Bay, 236
  • Difference Leader: New York, 149
As always, check my results and your own score, so I can correct any errors!

Here are the standings after the Conference Round- still a lot of action, and a lot of chance for shakeup with the Superbowl week Pick 'Em!

I'll be posting the final Pick 'Em by 1/31 or so, in the week before the Superbowl itself. For the game itself I'll likely do a similar pick 'em as the past two weeks (winner, over/under, etc).

However, to keep things interesting I welcome suggestions for fun, clever, and creative additional picks and bonuses.

Ah, quiet mediocrity once again! Notoriety shall not be mine. We quietly take our seat in coach class, far enough from the exit to ensure a long wait to deplane, but at least it is not the middle seat between the 2 fat ladies and their garlic sandwiches. Congratulations, owlhouse, on showing all of us know-it-alls just how difficult this really is.

Bonus possibilities: 1) Lowest jersey number to score a touchdown. 2) Total number of commercials. Though I don't know how you'd find that information.

Perhaps some prop bets are in order.

Sorry about not joining in sooner. I missed the notification for picks for the wild card games (despite seeing the one for the confidence pool), and since I didn't do that round, I figured I'd just sit out the divisional round pick 'em. Then there were so many points on the line for the conference championship games that I had to get in on the fun.

I'd like to thank the academy... with a Ricky Gervais style speech.

Looks up 'mathematically clinched". Winces.

Is there going to be a Super Bowl round of pick 'em?

posted by bender at 01:31 PM on February 02

Yeah, just haven't gotten around to posting it. There doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm, was hoping people would suggest some good pick 'em choices besides the basic set I've been doing for the games themselves.
