Quite a day in the Carling Cup. Some results of note:
Chelsea 3-4 Newcastle (at Stamford Bridge)
West Brom 2-1 Manchester City
and the cream of the crop:
Liverpool 2-2 Northampton Town (2-4 pens) (at Anfield) (Town are currently 17th in League Two, the fourth tier of English association football)

Boredom: I cannot begin to explain the Liverpool results this season. People blame the ownership not spending but that doesn't explain this match nor the goalless draw with Birmingham. The drilling by Man City, ZOMG!

I like to see great Cup upsets as much as the next person.
But can't they just make the Carling Cup an under 21 competition, take away the Euro League qualification and be done with it?

I cannot begin to explain the Liverpool results this season.
Maybe it's something in the water. They're still the better team in town, unfortunately.
