Australian Cruiserweight Bout Sparks Fix Investigation: An IBO Cruiserweight fight in Australia last week ended with Paul Briggs knocked out at the start of the first round by a punch that didn't appear to land. See the video. Opponent Danny Green was livid in a post-fight interview but later backed off his remarks. A retired Supreme Court judge is investigating whether it was fixed.

I didn't see a blow at all. He probably got more injured trying to get to the locker room. I wonder how much money Green made to change his tune.

On another note, Australia has pretty different insults than here in the US, "He's not even a canine."

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about him walking to the locker room. Those fans were pretty riled up.

If he was going to throw the fight, at least he could have taken one good hit for it.

The bigger outrage is the Burger King rip off logo at ringside. Poor Burger King.

NoMich: not a rip-off. Poor Burger King.

Was Don King involved in this, perchance?

Don King is the Burger King? Then I prefer my Hungry Jack's.

They do an excellent Veggie Burger, by the way.

Honestly, most of the Aussie press on this I've read has been unravelling a different story: the fight was originally scheduled to happen in New South Wales, and their boxing administrators turned it down when Green has serious neurological problems from previous serious boxing injuries. The fight was then re-scheduled in Western Australia, where they managed to find a doctor and administrators to sign off on a guy with serious brain damage fighting.

when Green has serious neurological problems

You mean Briggs, surely.

I don't know that the brain damage fighter story is actually different or any better. If he has serious neurological problems, then they knew that the fight was going to end like this anyway.
