SportsFilter: The Tuesday Huddle:

A place to discuss the sports stories that aren't making news, share links that aren't quite front-page material, and diagram plays on your hand. Remember to count to five Mississippi before commenting in anger.

That was a cold and hugely disappointing Rockies game last night. The crowd went from on top of the world to dead silence to grumbling in the course of a half inning.

A Burger King-sponsored cartoon on Fox NFL Sunday about the Cowboys included a bunch of cheap fat jokes about Jessica Simpson.

Simpson weight jokes are a year out of date, and it's a particularly weird subject of humor for Burger King. They don't make fat jokes; they make fat people.

Didn't Simpson do a fairly suggestive Carl's Jr commercial a few years back? Or am I getting my starlets mixed up?

Regardless, the Cowboys are supplying plenty of fodder on their own this season for humor. Resorting to poking fun at the QB's ex seems pretty damned lazy.

MLB playoffs so far this year: if you're ahead going into the ninth, be VERY WORRIED.

Junior Seau just re-signed with the Pats. If he sacks Kerry Collins this Sunday, I will inform the staff of Prime Time Seniors magazine.

Those two guys will be on the cover of the next issue, with the caption: "Age Aggressively"

Brett Favre says Kerry Collins is a punk kid and someone should check his diaper :-) Mr. Seau agrees.

Nice, rcade. The hysterical part of that cartoon is not only that it was sponsored by the Home of the Whopper, but that the animators themselves, if they are representative of America, were probably overweight themselves. Reminds me of a big slob I saw at a bar in Mexico once with a "No Fat Chicks" sign on his table.

Paris Hilton. I'm glad someone else noticed that crappy BK commercial masquerading as part of the show.

And would probably give their right nut to be with simpson.

Simpson does a Romo joke on a new/recent Macy's commercial so while the fat is probably the wrong humor target some mocking of her is not unreasonable.

U.S. Men's National Team forward Charlie Davis was involved in a serious car accident earlier this morning. See also.

From the looks of the pictures I would think that the 2 survivors were in the front of the car.

Also no word yet on what Davies is having surgery on. One source says it's possibly career threatening. Others have said the injuries are minor.

Belgian cyclist Frank Vandenbroucke has been found dead in a hotel room in Senegal. He was 34 years old.

Vandenbroucke was a prodigious talent in the mid-to-late ninenties, but suffered from a whole host of problems, including drug addiction (both recreational and performance-enhancing) and severe depression (including at least two suicide attempts).

His death is a tragic loss, but one that didn't come as a huge surprise to his legions of fans. RIP VDB.

I put your link on the front page, Holden. I don't have code yet to promote stuff to the front page and give you credit, but thanks for the link.

It says that holden posted it on the front page.

This is a worse showing of journalistic integrity than the Wapo!

Now that Roger Goodell is saying that "divisive comments are not what the N.F.L. is all about," it appears to me that Rush Limbaugh's bid to own a team is doomed.

Limbaugh loves the NFL, from what was said about his ESPN gig and what's been said now. He has the money to buy into the league. I wonder how tempting it would be for him to jettison the fiery partisanship and soften his image so he can get into the NFL. If I was in his position, I'd trade my position as the king of the radio blowhards for an NFL team in a heartbeat.

I have no feelings pro or con about having my name attached to the front page link. (I know better than to f!&* with a PopeSquatter.)

Kidding aside, I imagine we will come up with some protocol/technological fix for this going forward?
