Phelps Wins Ninth Medal with World-Record 400: American swimmer Michael Phelps shattered his own world record by 1.41 seconds in the 400-meter individual medley, finishing in 4:03.84 for his first gold medal of the 2008 Olympics and his ninth overall. He's hoping to win seven more.

This guy actually seems super human.

Phelps reminds me of a Large Earthquake. You will see/feel one every few years. Phelps is on his way to a 8.0.

Michael Phelps is phenomenal. I am convinced that genetically he is a natural swimmer.

Meanwhile, in the Women's 400m IM, my homegirl Stephanie Rice took nearly 2 seconds off the World record, too.

Who says he's human? The guy has to be at least part fish. WOW!

At least we know he's clean and not using any performance enhancing drugs, right?

Right?

While on the subject, did anyone notice the suspicious looking physiques of the Netherlands 4x100 women's team that collected the Gold? At least when compared to the other teams.

Although I note that the IOC are freezing all urine samples from Beijing so that they can be checked at a later date when testing technology improves.

Ahh Olympic times are here again, sooo exciting

Wow. The men's relay was insane. So exciting.

And the drug testing at the olympics is insane, grum. Really isane.

Agreed, DudeDykstra. That photo finish in the relay was amazing to witness, as well as it being a stunning victory for the American team and another medal for Phelps' collection. What I really loved seeing was Phelps' team spirit. He went absolutely nuts after that finish. Great stuff.

And now another gold has been added, with the relay team.

Herring and dairy.

Meanwhile, we got the hilarious No British Commentary coverage in which Katie Hoff throws away her lead just as the American commentators hand her the gold, leading them to brush the event under the carpet and focus on what was, admittedly, a great men's relay performance.

Herring and dairy

That reminds me of the Jonah Lomu t-shirt from a few years ago, which showed a tin of Pacific brand corned beef with the logo "Tongan Steroids".

I cannot believe the Americans won the 4x100 relay. That was simply a fantastic finish.

Phelps is definitely part fish. He is phenomenal. The men's relay was fantastic. They said that Lezak had the fastest split in that relay ever.

All of this excitement makes me wonder why we only get to watch swimming once every four years.

Right?

The whole "steroids-era" has totally sucked the life out of sports in this day & age. Whenever something magical happens in sports, people look at it with a leery look as if to say, "Yeah, sure." I can totally understand why people would have this skepticism when it comes to sporting events but when an Olympic athlete is being tested from sun up to sun down, the very least we can do is give the IOC the benefit of the doubt that they're doing their job to make sure that these athletes are on a level playing field.

BTW, Michael Phelps is the Mariner (Kevin Costner's character) from Waterworld.

Well, Marion Jones was able to evade detection for many years. Performancer enhancers or no, I still get caught up in the competitions. The thought of steroids never crosses my mind until after the event is done.

MUTATION!!!

Yes, he was astounding, and the whole relay was mind boggling!

Boy, this sure sounds snotty. Am I missing something? Do you have some evidence or allegations to give us? Anything other than just sneering?

Phelps also stands to shatter the record for Olympic gold medals (and that's just in this Olympics - imagine if he picks up more in 2012)

I guess. If so, my apologies.

Phelps was being genetically mutated to win in the Olympics. If he has what they said size 14 feet practically like fins, and lungs twice as large, he should've won before, even in the first time he competed.. byt he didn't, did he?

so he must've been mutated - deliberately.
