"If the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award were handed out at midseason, my vote would go to point guard Steve Nash of the Mavericks," writes Matt Guokas. Not bad for a guy who only shows up in one top-10 list for statistical leaders -- Nash leads everyone in free throw percentage at .926.

I agree that Nash is a stud...but MVP is pushing it. I think Guokas is just trying to give Nash his props by writing about him and I can respect that. But Nash really doesn't even beat out his own teammate. Dirk can do it all man. Boy can play. Second half of the season, though, I really think the Lakers will put it together and Kobe will end up with it.

Nowitzki's got the numbers, but Nash is the heart and soul of that team. He really is the most Valuable player the Mavs have got. If he ever were to win an MVP, this would be the year, seeing as how there really isn't a front-running candidate (so far this year, anyways). That said, Tim Duncan could quietly deserve the award too. Without him, the Spurs could easily be a lottery team.

Hey, nowadays, if a professional basketball player can make his free throws, he deserves the friggin MVP award. But, giving it to Nash does seem to be a bit far-fetched. I would say Nowitzki before Nash on the Mavericks, and Chris Webber overall. But, I don't get a vote, so oh well...

As much as it hurts me to say it (Dallas-ite), Webber deserves it so far. Nash is the MVP of the Mavericks, in my opinion, though. Without him, their offense wouldn't stand a chance.
