2007 NFL Playoff Pick 'Em: Superbowl Edition

First off, sorry for the delay. I have a lot less time than I had hoped for this when I started. On to the results. YukonGold pulls into a one point lead headed into the final game of the year. For the Picks: Giants or Pats and by how much? Same scoring as all along. For the Super Bonus (as seen last year): 1. Which team will score first? 2. How will they score? Offense, Defense, or Special Teams? Special teams covers offensive and defensive special teams. Points scored on Field Goals, Punts, or Kick offs are special team points regardless of which team scores. 3. How much game time will have elapsed since the start of the game for the score? Time must be given in minutes and seconds from the start. An example of a correct answer is 5 min 37 sec or 5:37 or 25:07 or 56:05 or 0:03. Examples of incorrect answers that will not be rewarded points include "2 minutes into the second quarter", "7 seconds into the second half," etc. 1 point will be rewarded for all answers of part 3 of the bonus within +-2 minutes of the actual score. 2 points will be rewarded if within +-10 seconds. If you somehow manage to get get all 3 right, you'll be rewarded with 5 bonus points.

Giants by 2. Giants score first on special teams. Giants FG is 6:20 into the first quarter. I toss my first drunk out the front door seventeen minutes before the game starts. No blood drawn until second half.

Pats by 21. Pats score first on offense. Pats score is at 3:52. The fistfight in the base lodge bar between the dirtbags and the New Yorkers starts 14 seconds after the kicking of the extra point.

Giants by 23. Giants score first by offense. 2:23 will have elapsed in the first quarter by the time that Burress catches the pass and scores.

posted by NoMich at 07:38 AM on January 29, 2008

Patriots by 24. Patriots score first on offense. Time of the first score is 4:36 of the first period. I predict a close first half (perhaps Patriots ahead by 3) then a blowout second half in which Patriots shut out the Giants.

Giants by 23. I think NoMich has been drinking and posting again. If that happens, I will pick the Ottawa Senators to win every round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, even if they face the Leafs in the first round.

even if they face the Leafs in the first round. Someone has been going drink for drink with NoMich.

Last night I had a dream that the Giants were winning with 11 seconds left and then I realized I hadn't posted my picks yet and I wondered if it was too late. Since my dreams don't come true, I am going with the opposite. Pats by 4 Giants score 1st Defense 8:27 seconds into the game Good job Yukon

posted by Monica Poland at 06:07 PM on January 31, 2008

dfleming, you need to clarify your bonus #2 pick. Is it offense or special teams? If the rushing td was a punt/field goal fake it'd count as special teams and not offensive.

posted by apoch at 08:21 PM on January 31, 2008

If NE scores a TD by rushing the ball during a fake punt, I for one, would be offended.

posted by BoKnows at 08:24 PM on January 31, 2008

New England by 10 NE scores first, on special teams1, 4:00 into the game. 1. NY field goal attempt is blocked, NE recovers and fumbles on the NY 1-yard line, NY recovers and fumbles on the NE 1-yard line, NE recovers and returns to NY 15-yard line, drop kicks for a field goal.

Sounds like Canadian football to me, Dr J. And like I'd know.

posted by owlhouse at 12:37 AM on February 01, 2008

Apoch, the Dr. has to get all that correct for points.

posted by BoKnows at 12:44 AM on February 01, 2008

If he did that would be worth a thousand points and go down as the greatest prediction in sports prognostication, ever. So, in the interest of fairness, I'll ignore the footnote.

Fair enough. Point Taken.

posted by BoKnows at 02:55 AM on February 01, 2008

DJE, how on earth is all that going to happen in four minutes?

posted by lil_brown_bat at 06:51 AM on February 01, 2008

Everyone says the Patriots are really good at managing the clock, right?

posted by DrJohnEvans at 07:43 AM on February 01, 2008

Oh didn't the Patriots Drop Kicker retire a year or two ago?

posted by apoch at 09:33 AM on February 01, 2008

Yes. Doug Flutie retired in 2005 after playing with the Patriots for one year, going 1-1 on extra point attempts.
