Posting Comments in a deleted thread:: Apparently it is possible. Is this a feature, or a bug?

I thought deleted threads were to be locked, but I don't know for sure.

It's always been possible. Rcade gave us a close thread feature recently so I've been closing deleted threads. Just forgot on this one.

I can check recent articles from my home page on Yahoo, and deleted articles are often there for commenting hours after deletion.

It isn't just this one. I can see threads in my RSS feed, click through and comment. I have seen the "closed to comments" sign, but many, many times I don't even notice I am commenting on a closed thread because I clicked through from RSS and not the homepage.

MetaFilter used to have this bug (commenting on closed threads or even future threads) until about Summer 2005. Is SpoFi is still using that codebase?

Yeah, just checked ... seems to be the same problem. Ask mathowie how he fixed this.

I think it's the same code, just tweaked here or there. I don't think there's a bug. The deletion of a thread doesn't close it. It's two different actions. But the closing seems to work, and I think they're still closing fine automatically after a set amount of days.

So do comments count in a thread that is shut down for the 15 comment/ post a thread newbie thing?

SportsFilter uses the MetaFilter codebase circa 2002 with minor changes. I'd like to add some of the cool new features over there like tagging.

Tagging would be sweet, although the categories do help some bit in that regard. I'd love to see a 'favorites' feature as well.

I just posted to a "archived and closed to new comments" thread.
