Lindros Over/Under: : Reading this discussion got me thinking...how long will it be before Lindros' next campaign is ended by a concussion-causing sneeze, a melonballing accident, or a bathtub fall? Do you feel lucky, punk? Well...do ya?

From the cited discussion, I got: cbjack with 50 games; wingnut4life with 60; and qbert72 with 40 games and 30 points. I would like to see guesses cover games and points; I'm going with 45 games and 40 points.

Oooo.... Ummmm..... (processing)... 37 games 23 points

He gets injured in training camp avoiding Turco's Mercedes in the parking lot. Misses all of 2006 and comes back in late January 2007. Plays in 25 games and snaps his ankle chasing a long Turco pass up the Boards. Misses the rest of the regular season. So I got him with 25 games -9 with 6 goals and 16 pts. Are we counting playoff games? Just wondering.

In that same thread, I called 25 games this season & 17 goals/40 points, but I'm thinking that point total might be a little high by half. I'll stick with what I said, though. I wish no ill on the Stars specifically. Turco kept me out of the basesment in the Fantasy pool last year, so go him.

Do we win a prize? Having been with spofi a mere 7 months I have learned so much and now enjoy watching hockey because of you people. Well, that and the Prizes. 45 games but only 23 pts.

so, is this like the "price is right" where if you go over you lose? It is like the Price is Right, in that I urge you to spay and neuter Bob Barker. And, yes, I'm going with "up to and including," but not "over." Are we counting playoff games? Nope, just regular season, although I will give you a "never makes it through the preseason" option. Do we win a prize? I will provide you with a spiffy "Lindros Over/Under" award for your SpoFi profile.

In game 2 of the season the Devils go down to Georgia Dallas. Under the tutelage of Scott Steves, White trys to replicate the events of 2000 and hurts himself. Lindros thinks he has nothing to worry about and throws caution to the wind. He doesn't see little Gionta and trips over him injuring the aforementioned wrist. Eric misses a month and plays a few games when they meet the Hurricanes. Taunted by former teammate Rod, he gets overzealous and trips over the boards and gets up amazingly unscathed. However, the embarrasment causes him to take a stupid penalty which gets him suspended for 7 games. Big E comes back, goes on a tear, and reaches the all star break with 38 points in 29 games. The next 10 games he only scores 3 points when he sustains an "upper body injury". He spends the rest of the season on the injured list under the speculation that he could be back in time for the playoffs. So that would be 39 games and 41 points.

I'm going with "up to and including," but not "over." I'd like this to be totally clear. Weedy has 37 games, I have 40 and HATER has 45. Supposing we're the only three competitors, I'd expect to win if Lindros plays from 38 to 40 games inclusively. So it's actually bizzarro Price is Right. Right? Also, are the points and games two different guesses leading to two winners, or are they related? If so, how?

I think we need a confidence pool. Add in some other injury prone players like Samsonov, Belfour, Jason Allison, Hasek and away we go.

posted by gspm at 08:19 AM on July 19, 2006

We need to establish a Clue-style "cause of inevitable injury" category as well. Call it the wild card. Right now, my instinct tells me: 1 - Could be an injury getting nailed coming across the blueline. 2 - Hit in the corner. 3 - Hit getting off the bench. 4 - Concussed by slap on the back from assistant coach after decent shift. 3 - but I'm going to have to go with - seperated shoulder in the kitchen, making waffles.

I think we need a confidence pool. Speaking of which, do you plan to post a final standings thread for the World Cup pool, gspm? Some baseball and hockey fanatics have bragging to do.

Well, waffles are dangerously delicious.

qbert: Yes on the BPIR theory. You would win in that scenario. Also, there will be two different Lindros Over/Under awards...one for games played, one for points. And, speaking of final standings, whatever happened to the hockey pick'em?

posted by The_Black_Hand at 10:56 AM on July 19, 2006

And, speaking of final standings, whatever happened to the hockey pick'em? mkn updated the final standings, but never posted a thread. I placed in the top ten in that and the World Cup, but no final threads. Coincidence?

posted by MrFrisby at 11:10 AM on July 19, 2006

qbert: Yes on the BPIR theory. You would win in that scenario. OK, thanks. Except MrFrisby has gone and picked 39 games, so I have to be dead on if I'm to win. This is what I get for bidding (almost) first. I fully expect the last bidder to go with 82 games, in classic 1$ TPIR fashion.

I see there is a 42 and a couple 45's. Well crap. I guess I should have paid more attention to other peoples picks. Oh well, my imagination was running wild and I'll stick with my story. Do I have to be more specific than "upper body injury". Hockey fans should know what I mean by that. What kind of people are we to be betting on the misfortune of another human being?

What kind of people are we to be betting on the misfortune of another human being? I take bets on how long marriages will last during the wedding and get disapointed when I don't hear breaking glass and crunching metal after hearing schreeching tires. So I guess I'm alright with betting on Big E's eventual lackluster preformance and season ending injury.

I placed in the top ten in that and the World Cup, but no final threads. Coincidence? I looked over both final standings and realized that I finished in 26th place in both. Weird. I guess mediocrity is just my forte.

I guess mediocrity is just my forte. It's good that you learned that at such an early age. You'll save yourself years of anguish and hard work if you just give up now. Really, it's for the best.

I'll come back October 3 with my pick, if he hasn't injured himself in training camp. Pussy! C'mon - factor in the notion of him starting the season on the IR. Figure it will take him 20 games to get over a hangover, and go from there. In the Big E's defense - that is a red wine hangover. The worst.

58 games ... 42 points Skinny Joey Merlino sends a goon after him for failure to settle past gambling debts ... or for messing with his wife. (Though she apparently likes one-legged men... Only in Philly.) Seriously, it'll be in practice. Always happens in practice.

I placed in the top ten in that and the World Cup, but no final threads. Coincidence? Well, the lack of the final thread in the World Cup pool would be related to the Spofi outage that happened before the World Cup final and lasted long enough for me to forget that I was running that. Oops.
