Big congratulations are also in order to gspm's Crap City United, who win November and is a mere 23 points off the lead now.

posted by BigCalm at 10:06 AM on November 30, 2004

you seem scared (BWA HA HA!). it should be noted that I have not been above you all season and, despite the gap closing slowly, there is still a big enough cushion to be uncomfortably ahead for at least a few more weeks. one thinks.

posted by gspm at 10:22 AM on November 30, 2004

Had my best week so far and i still didn't get top score! Nor did i move up! This is ridiculous... Oh, and not having two leagues was a terrible decision. The apathy and lack of braggadocio is very disappointing...and yes, the are directly correlated.

THEY!

posted by StarFucker at 11:12 AM on November 30, 2004

well, if you didn't suck so bad, maybe you could shed your apathy.

Crap. What a horrible horrible month. From 5th to 13th, ye gods.

posted by trox at 11:26 AM on November 30, 2004

I've moved from 16th to 10th this month. I'd like to think that I'm slowly figuring this game out after a year and a half.

posted by mbd1 at 12:45 PM on November 30, 2004

Even if we had two leagues you'd still be shit SF. (Is that the kind of thing you're talking about?)

posted by squealy at 01:25 PM on November 30, 2004

And your logic is as faulty as your team selection. (I like that one better).

posted by squealy at 01:31 PM on November 30, 2004

Watch out, SF, or I'll have to give you one of these.

Where is WC with all of his "I'm lookin' down at you, Man!" crap now? Huh? Now that I've jobbed him and have opened a 12 point gap? Look at that sweet yellow on my line, Mr. 6th Place WorldCup, why don'tcha?

posted by billsaysthis at 03:03 PM on November 30, 2004

I am here. And your ascendancy is only temporary. I will be in 3rd place by the end of the year.

posted by worldcup2002 at 03:50 PM on November 30, 2004

suuuuuure you will. I believe you. You're already settling for 3rd and you're not gonna get even that.

posted by sauril at 04:14 PM on November 30, 2004

I assume he means calendar year rather than the season. He's wrong either way though.

posted by squealy at 06:25 PM on November 30, 2004

WC, you are headed down, my friend, not up and just savor the air while you can still sniff it.

posted by billsaysthis at 06:59 PM on November 30, 2004

Oh you monkeys, I fart in all your general directions!

posted by worldcup2002 at 11:47 PM on November 30, 2004

that sounds like it takes a fair bit of flatulent expertise.

posted by garfield at 09:11 AM on December 01, 2004

I think the stench is his team selection, really...

I'm guessing Fark.

A friend of mine sent me this one and put it on my website. I think its hilarious! Although, i don't think its real. I mean, i think its merely a marketing/advertising ploy.

posted by StarFucker at 08:49 AM on December 02, 2004

it is. It's been around for a while, I think.

Did anyone else see the Reds-Gunners last night? Man, Arsenal really did not look into the game except for maybe 15 minutes in the second half. Makes their results in the time since losing to ManU much more understandable. Talk about slumps!

posted by billsaysthis at 12:26 PM on December 02, 2004

standard retort = Carling Cup (or whatever it is called this year) = not fielding the first choice XI = meh = don't figure that their slump is over if they had won, don't figure that a loss has much to do with their current form if they are not fielding their strongest team i only recognize three names from the Arsenal lineup last night (which was Manuel Rivero Almunia, Gael Clichy , Johan Djourou, Justin Hoyte, Philippe Senderos, Mathieu Flamini, Sebastian Larsson, Jermaine Pennant, Arturo Lupoli, Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, Robin Van Persie, with subs from Daniel Karbassiyoon, Ryan Smith, Patrick Cregg) and with my admittedly limited knowledge I might have been hard pressed to associate those names I did recognize (Clichy, Pennant, and maybe Van Persie) specifically with Arsenal.

posted by gspm at 01:00 PM on December 02, 2004

I think you're spot on gspm. The Guardian were even referring to it as Man U Reserves vs Arsenal youth team. I watched the game myself as I'd heard good things about the young Arsenal set-up. However, the older, more experienced Man U team were too much for them. I think Arsenal only created one chance of note during the whole 90 minutes. I was particularly disappointed by van Persie.

posted by squealy at 01:14 PM on December 02, 2004

The best part of the ManU-Arsenal game yesterday was part of soccernet's text commentary, which summed up the game for me: 77 Mins - Double United substitution. Off go Kleberson and Eagles; on come David Jones (yeah, I don't know either)and Giuseppe Rossi.

posted by blarp at 01:57 PM on December 02, 2004

guys, sorry, I meant the league loss some weeks back that ended their epic streak, not the Carling Cup match.

posted by billsaysthis at 06:18 PM on December 02, 2004

bill, aren't you talking about the Liverpool-Arsenal game that was just televised on Wednesday night?

posted by StarFucker at 08:51 AM on December 03, 2004

i was confused about my interpretation of what you had said, bill, since i give you credit for being a bigger footie fan than myself. and it looks like my fault because you said "time since losing to ManU" which would obviously refer to more than the time elapsed since the Carling Cup match.

posted by gspm at 09:12 AM on December 03, 2004

I'm confused.

posted by worldcup2002 at 01:05 PM on December 03, 2004

err - i read what bill wrote... - i interpreted it as bill not "getting" that the - Carling Cup match should not be taken as an indication of the team form.... - i figured bill is a big enough fan to know this... - if he's a big enough footie fan then how did he not "get it" about the Carling Cup... - thus i was confused and posted the Carling cup comment... - but it was my interpretation of what Bill meant that confused me, not what he actually meant (if it is necessary to clear any of that up) anyway, let's not forget, big congratulations are also in order to gspm's Crap City United, who win November and is a mere 23 points off the lead now.

gspm, thanks for the laugh! Did anyone else see the Reds-Gunners last night? This was indeed a reference to the match played on Sunday, Nov. 28, and broadcast on FSW on Wed., Dec. 1. in the time since losing to ManU This was indeed a reference to the match played on Oct. 24. WC, I hope you are no longer confused.

posted by billsaysthis at 02:40 PM on December 03, 2004

should i keep trying to explain it and thus render wc2002 totally confused and incapable of putting together a good team for this weekend's pool action?

posted by gspm at 03:12 PM on December 03, 2004
