***SPOFI LOCKER ROOM INTERVIEW #16*** lilnemo: "WOO-HOO!!" Moving right along, let's interview our little coral fish, our little boy who lives a surreal dream, our lilnemo!

[brought to you by SpoFiers who want a Locker Room interview with rcade: "I've been begging for that shit for a long, long time."]

So, maybe rcade will consent to an interview. But until then, let's go with everybody's best little buddy, lilnemo!

Q1. So your profile says you're someone called Rick. Why did you pick lilnemo as a nickname?

posted by worldcup2002 at 12:36 PM on April 03, 2004

I know this one: he has a fetish for cute little fishies!

posted by billsaysthis at 03:47 PM on April 03, 2004

actually I picked that moniker because I am an avid fan of both windsor mccay and (of course) disney. I don't know if i could have gone very long under the username rarebitfiend.

I need the hours of 3-5 to pump myself up for the Clippers (or as we call them in my household: the Cripples) vs. Jazz game I will be attending. on to the next question please! Go Cripples!

Is this a monologue or an interview? And, wait a second - you go to Clippers games? That's like being born in New York and deciding to be a Mets fans.

Hey, I didn't realize, but I picked another Californian for an interview. First Northern Cal, and now South Cali. Yeah! Anyway, go to your Clippers game. I'll figure some silly question to ask next. Like ...

Q2. How did you find out about SpoFi? What made you join? As a relative newbie, how has your experience of SpoFi been since you first came here, and as you very quickly became a lovable element of the community. (I'm just saying it's hard to get mad with someone called lilnemo. But that's just me.)

posted by worldcup2002 at 03:22 PM on April 04, 2004

i was a lurker on mefi first. and seeing how numba juan didn't see fit to open registration, and sports weren't getting much play (if at all), i went searching for a good sports forum (good luck). it was pure luck that i happened upon spofi. and thank jeebus for that. i've quite enjoyed my spofi experience thus far. there's been a squabble or two but nothing earth shattering. just differences of opinion. but isn't that what makes this site great? this is one of the few sports communities where no one gets tarred and feathered (unless you're into that sort of thing).

posted by lilnemo at 04:41 PM on April 04, 2004

Q3. So, how was that Clippers game? How and when did you become a Clippers fan? Why not, say, the Lakers? And is basketball your favorite sport? What is your favorite sport to watch? To play?

posted by worldcup2002 at 10:15 PM on April 04, 2004

The Clippers game was great, they lost, but it was great. I've rooted for the clippers since 93 or 94 the year of the free agent exodus when they parted ways with such greats as ken norman, danny manning, charles smith, ron harper, benoit benjamin, and mark jackson (don't mention matt fish or logan vandervelden; i get teary :/). they're the underdog, often they're not good enough to win, but they try hard and i respect that. basketball is definitely my favorite sport to play. you can play it alone or with others, at home, the park, school yards, or at the gym. truly a sport for the everyman. my favorite sport to watch? basketball, then hockey (now), then soccer, then football, then baseball, in that order. basketball, soccer, and hockey matches just flow so much more smoothly than the other sports. football has shorter stoppages in play than baseball. but i'm definitely trying to learn more about the sports I used to watch the least (soccer and hockey). I'm learnding. :)

Q4. How about them Dodgers? Are you a fan? How's dePodesta doing down there? How's the local news reporting his entry as the new Dodgers GM? What are their chances? Or will we have to put up with the Rally Monkey again?

posted by worldcup2002 at 11:59 PM on April 04, 2004

wake up already West Coast nemo, it's 11:30 on the east coast. we're waiting for some interviewing action!

posted by jerseygirl at 09:31 AM on April 05, 2004

i'm up ! i'm up! the dodgers. well they certainly are the dodgers aren't they? I don't know, dePodesta is going to have to work some magic seeing as how the "parking attendant" isn't exactly swinging for the fences in terms of paying player salary. I think they'll surprise some folks this season, but i don't think the post season is in our immediate future. sorry wc2002, its a tought time to be a dodger fan. and yes, we will run afoul of the accursed monkey this year. :)

posted by lilnemo at 10:12 AM on April 05, 2004

Tell me about this "parking attendant." I haven't heard that story.

posted by dusted at 10:36 AM on April 05, 2004

some of the local radio shows are calling the new GM the "parking attendant" because there have been rumors that he wants to turn chavez ravine into profit by making it a parking lot.

posted by lilnemo at 10:42 AM on April 05, 2004

Q5. You'll have to tell us non-LA folks more about this Chavez Ravine. I can't tell if I should laugh out loud or act impressed by what may be a profit-making stroke of genius. While you're at it, tell us if you're originally from L.A., or whereabouts you come from.

posted by worldcup2002 at 11:19 AM on April 05, 2004

Chavez ravine is the location of dodger stadium. ...profit-making stroke of genius... if you're becoming a dodger fan, be depressed. very, very depressed. I am in fact born and somewhat raised in L.A. . Let me clarify that. I was born in la but I have lived in arizona, texas, and new mexico. I returned to la in 1989 and have remained here ever since. I currently reside in pasadena (10-12 miles outside of the city of la) but work in la.

posted by lilnemo at 11:24 AM on April 05, 2004

once more to clarify. to clearly describe chavez ravine ( in the words of a true dodger fan). think of this line from gladiator. "Rome is the light." replace rome with chavez ravine, and you're pretty close.

posted by lilnemo at 11:26 AM on April 05, 2004

Q6. Huh. Got a picture? Of the ravine. And while you're at it, get a picture of yourself, too. Or at least tell us what you look like. This is for the ladies.

posted by worldcup2002 at 11:35 AM on April 05, 2004

so is the talk to parkinglotify dodger stadium? and replace it with a new stadium?

posted by gspm at 11:36 AM on April 05, 2004

and while you're at it, "Got a picture of yourself in a bikini!?"

posted by jerseygirl at 11:39 AM on April 05, 2004

so is the talk to parkinglotify dodger stadium? and replace it with a new stadium? i hope so. it would suck playing ball in a parking lot. seriously; the rumor is that the gm would sell chavez ravine off, and try and build a stadium in downtown la. for those of you who don't know chavez ravine is just on the outer fringe of la. "Got a picture of yourself in a bikini!?" tastefully done of course. I'm 24 years old. 5'9", 150 lbs, dark brown eyes, long jet black hair, light skinned. I have all my teeth, and fingernails (which are clean, thanks Sandra!). I've got upside (big ups to my NBA peeps). I'm not buff, but I'm no slouch either. I could probably bench press a programmer. :) I can't promise to try, but I'll try to try and post a pic in the next day or two.

forgot to say that I have all of my appendages. contrary to popular belief, I'm not a nude archer. I'm a nude free throw shooter, right handed, lefty if you're into that sort of thing. * rib-shot *

forgot to say that I have all of my appendages. Is that an Ice Pirates reference?

posted by LionIndex at 12:41 PM on April 05, 2004

Ice Pirates reference... nope, but you've piqued my interest. it's "rimshot" not "rib-shot." I know, thats an homage to a friend of mine who has a quirk for those sorts of missteps. i likee the link though.

posted by lilnemo at 12:46 PM on April 05, 2004

Q7. I see you didn't mention if you had a lady friend already, so I'll have to ask. Do you have a steady? A wife? Are you looking for one? This is also for the ladies.

posted by worldcup2002 at 01:06 PM on April 05, 2004

I have a "steady". We've been together for 5 wonderful years. we used to work at a bookstore together, thats how we met. we would be snarky with customers. for the life of me i don't know what i've done to be this lucky.

posted by lilnemo at 01:17 PM on April 05, 2004

Q8. Well, that's put an end to that line of questioning. (Come back, ladies!) You used to work at a bookstore. Where do you work now?

posted by worldcup2002 at 01:45 PM on April 05, 2004

in a library. I am destined to give directions to the restroom, the sex books, danielle steel novels, and chicken soup for the soul for the rest of my life. blecch. but the books and internet access is more than fair consolation. and if one more elderly lady says i look like a young rudolph valentino they're gettin' a knuckle sammich!

posted by lilnemo at 01:57 PM on April 05, 2004

Q9. Ha! From the bookstore to the library. Seems like I should ask you about books. But I'm more interested in your predilection for comics. (My local library has some anime and Sandman graphic novels!) Tell me about your comics habit. Geek out. Favorite characters, artists, movie adaptation, etc.

posted by worldcup2002 at 01:58 PM on April 05, 2004

i was introduced to comics by my uncle, who was (like a lot of comic fans) an aspiring artist. The Amazing Spiderman. He used to draw these elaborate city-scapes complete with spidey posing in the required postures. i've always been a sucker for the pretty picshers as it were. but over time any fan of comics learns to enjoy the writing. alan moore, neil gaiman, judd winnick, jason lutes, chris ware, frank miller, mike allred, eisner. my interests have vascillated between the absurd and hyper realistic at times, but i've become fairly obsessed with story. the simple arcs, the epics. i still hear comics described as a cultural niche, but i don't buy it. not all comic readers are freaks or geeks, though many feel that way. fave character has always been nightcrawler (of the x-men. 25 years and we've shared pretty much the same haircut. and he's blue (my fave color) Fave artist(s): neal adams, mike mignola, mike allred, john romita jr., bart sears, windsor mccay, eisner, jim lee, j. scott campbell. < /geek credentials> right now, everything is about story. the journey. forget beginnings, middles, ends. books, comics, movies. i love them all the same.

Erm, back to this. Yeah. Nightcrawler. How'd you like that X-Men 2? I think they did a great job picking Alan Cummings and bringing Nightcrawler to life. I like that Frank Miller. Dark Knight. Daredevil. Elektra. Man. Oh, I was kinda down on Affleck as DD but Jennifer Garner was a brilliant choice. Can't wait to see the Elektra movie. Rowwwr. Wow, ok, geek off.

posted by worldcup2002 at 02:21 PM on April 05, 2004

Q10. OK, let's take it out with some good ol' funnery. Food, drink, fun. What do you do for all of those? (And pick the next interviewee.)

posted by worldcup2002 at 02:23 PM on April 05, 2004

I wasn't too sure about alan cummings because he's so effeminate. but he was able to stay true to the core of the character (even if they did fudge his origin a bit). didn't see daredevil but I think ben's buddy matt would have been a better choice, cripes he's already played a lawyer!

Food: If I'm eating out its either Islands, Tokyo Wako, Border Grill, Lucilles, In-N-Out Burger, Tommy's, or Denny's. If I'm eating in, and she's cooking: Cincinnati-style chili ( which cannot be eaten with a spoon, it must be eaten with many club crackers), tortilla soup, porterhouse steak with red potatoes, quesadillas, or a whole turkey (and not just on thanksgiving). If I'm eating in, and I'm cooking: toast, pb&j sammich, hot dogs, burgers, steaks, mixed veggies. If it needs grilling or toasting, or involves opening a can, I'm your man. just kidding we cook together. drink: yes please, thought you'd never ask. I am a man, first and foremost. But I do not drink beer. I've never drank, to get drunk. I drink what I think tastes good. Namely margaritas (always with fajitas), a sandrick (her invention), or the occasional green hell. though there was that unfortunate incident with the long island iced tea... fun: I watch a lot of movies. like, a lot. jgirl, I just know you've rented before sunrise by now :p I read a lot. Neruda, Paz, Crichton, Chabon, ooh and don't forget James Morrow! I post to SpoFi a lot. but you knew that! I play video games a lot. all sports games, with the occasional action/sidescroller Their really isn't enough time in the day, is there? as wc2k2 moves on to the next interview is this where closing interviewer james lipton comes in? No? I thought not. I vote rcade be next (lets face it, thats the interview everyone really wanted; please feel free to piss on my parade some more bill), but if he is unable, or contractually obligated to be interviewed elsewhere, you can't go wrong with vito90 or dusted. this is fun, any more questions?

Hey, Cincinnatti Chili! Yeah. Skyline Chili! I like that Three-way (no, it's not what you monkeys are thinking): 1) spaghetti topped with 2) meaty Cincinnati chili sauce, and 3) grated neon-orange American cheese, plus crushed oyster crackers and generous shots of Tabasco. And you have to eat it at lunchtime, dressed in a two-piece suit, and wear a big plastic dork-apron. Perfect! Good times, good times. Sigh ... Unfortunately, even tho I've put up the ad for an rcade interview, he's neglected to respond, or comment here. So I'm going to interview someone else. And keep advertising for rcade. Thanks, lilnemo. Anyone who has more questions for lilnemo, go ahead.

So, I was gonna interview forks, but I don't see him anywhere. And rcade, I'm just not sure he's available. So, who's next? Who else was on my "Broken Promises" interviewee list? Whoooooo are you? Who? Who? Who? Who? (Can you tell I love CSI?)

posted by worldcup2002 at 03:43 PM on April 05, 2004

skyline chili, mmm, that sounds like a winner. it's the first game of the season. chill. :) I'm trying to rub some of that "True Blue" dodger fan goodness onto wc2k2. by the bye, some interesting opening notes on the dodgers season. milton bradley showed up to the stadium an hour early. who'da thunk it? the gm is cracking down on tailgating, as well as alcohol consumption at the stadium.
