Righteous. I smell a "SpoFie" Award for best post with the least subject.

posted by lilnemo at 03:54 PM on January 16, 2004

And thats pronounced Spo-Fee. And yes I just made that up.

posted by lilnemo at 03:55 PM on January 16, 2004

Which begs the question: Is MeFi pronounced May-Fy or May-Fee or Me-Fy or Me-Fee? Is SpoFi pronounced Spo-Fy or Spo-Fee?

Garfield, get back to work you moron, we have drinking to do. My voice always Spo-Fee. Weird.

It's Spo-Fee. And topic-less lockerroom posts ALWAYS break down into Simpsons quotes. So I'll start: [Sung to the music of "Talkin' Baseball"] Well, Mr. Burns had done it. The power plant had won it. With Roger Clemens clucking all the while. Mike Scioscia's tragic illness made us smile. While Wade Boggs lay unconscious on the barroom tile. We're talkin'... Softball. From Maine to San Diego. Talking'...Softball. Mattingly and Canseco. Ken Griffey's grotesquely swollen jaw. Steve Sax and his run-in with the law. We're talkin' Homer...Ozzie, and the Straw. (obviously) Oh, and Go Leafs Go!

What the hell are we talkin' 'bout here?

posted by worldcup2002 at 04:40 PM on January 16, 2004

As long as we're doing Simpsons quotes, and as long as I resisted the temptation to do this here, why the hell not:
McAllister: Arr, matey. Nary a warning light to be seen. 'Tis clear sailing ahead for our precious cargo. Sailor: Uh, would that be the hot pants, sir? McAllister: Aye, the hot pants.

Apropos Spo-Fy versus Spo-Fee: The voice in my head pronounces it Spo-fy as SpoFi bears a nominal resemblance to Fungi which (unless I'm mistaken) is pronounced Fun-Guy. But I'm obviously no expert. Can we get a linguist in here to split hairs?

"Do I know what rhetorical means?"

posted by 86 at 05:36 PM on January 16, 2004

SpoFi, as in Spo-Fye. As in Medieval curse word. Fye upon you! Fye!

posted by rocketman at 06:20 PM on January 16, 2004

I'm a "fye"-r to, but I've always pronounced the mothership as Mee-Fye, so it's probably just a holdover.

posted by Ufez Jones at 06:34 PM on January 16, 2004

SpoFi, as in Spo-Fye. As in Medieval curse word. Isn't that FIE? In which case, it's definitely Spo-Fee. I'm a Spo-Fye Guy myself *rhyme intentional*

When walking, always watch out for posts at crotch height. They'll do that.

Hopefully this post gets deleted: the geek in me would like to see this link turn up a 404 error.

Why are both playoff games tomorrow? Wouldn't it make sense to have one of the conference championships today? Spread the love a bit? /me bored, also with hurting sac

I think they want to make sure both winning teams have the same number of days to prepare for the SuperBowl.

This post makes my sac hurt. Story time, kiddos: I was staying at a hostel in Glasgow (Summer of '98) and managed to wake before my travelling bud (after a very long night before, a long story for another night). Anyways, I showered and went down to the lobby to watch the tellie and the guy working the counter, who was about 45 and at least 50 lbs overweight) joined me on the couch (which was fortuitious as he had smokes and was willing to share). Anyways, after sometime of stealing his smokes and watching the shitty European MTV, he broke about five minutes of silence by saying "Man, I shagged so hard last night, my balls hurt. I don't know whether to massage them or just leave them alone." So, like then, I'll say to you know, fct, take care of it on your own.

posted by Ufez Jones at 10:18 PM on January 17, 2004

Ufez: so you took the big man's cigarettes and then ignored his obvious pleas for a ball massage? You have no jailhouse etiquette. AT THE VERY LEAST a rimjob would be appropriate. I just don't know about you kids these days.

This is what I wanna know: How does an OG punk like me find my inner-Beatles fan? I was really, really into them in the mid-'70s, then I discovered the Pistols, Ramones, Clash, Stooges, "Rock Against Racism," and I completely forgot about the Fab 4. However, over the last couple of months, I can't get enough of "The White Album" and "Sgt. Peppers." What the eff happened? I mean, I even got ahold of a digital version of "Revolution #9," backwards. ?! Turn me on, dead man.

NoMich, check out Brendan Benson if you like the Beatle sound.

No Mich: Try This

posted by forksclovetofu at 05:32 PM on January 18, 2004

NoMich, the punkers all burned out or blew up, no exceptions, so if you want something to listen to, why not a quality outfit like the Fab 4?
