Spofi Fantasy Hockey, Week 6. Blah blah Arrogant Champs blah blah grum sucks! Out of nowhere, the Crap City Crapadiens (or the Craps for short) have jumped into second, knocking off the perennial runner-ups, les colecos and Sammy's Ice Holes. Can the Craps maintain this torrent to claim the number one spot? Find out next week!

Okay, say it with me: Dammit, grum!

I can't claim them all, so I might as well list my top 5 unclaimed players: - Radek Dvorak -- this guy's been on a major roll lately, averaging more than a point per game in his last 10. - Steve Thomas -- Stumpy Thomas! Just signed with Detroit, so scoring will be no problem for him. Had 10 goals in 12 games in Anaheim last year, and a solid playoff run. - Andy McDonald -- Yahoo has him ranked 152 right now. He started slow (as did his whole team), but now that Fedorov is scoring again, McDonald has been scoring too. - Marc-Andre Bergeron -- (the other rookie Bergeron) a good-performing rookie D-man in Edmonton. Good point shot. Had a two-point game tonight. - Steve Konowalchuk -- Ok, so I grabbed him. He's been doing pretty good since being traded to Colorado. Then again, anyone would on that team. Well, since he's taken, that means that Spezza is available. Hope some of these find a good home.

Yawn. The annual ass-kicking continues. Though it is nice to see someone other than the usual suspects taking a run at the top. That's a hell of a week to jump from 10th to 2nd.

dunno what i can attribute the dramatic rise to (heck, I was chuffed to find myself in a solid 10th spot last week and was gunning for 9th). i think all my players scored last week so i had a little boost in the goals scored department. and i had some decent goaltending stats collected and i dunno, i didn't think the team did THAT good. plus, i was looking at the recaps this morning and see that Tanguay (I have him) is the top scorer in the league. sheesh, i didn't know that. but at least the boost has me thinking hey, i might win! (an illusion grum probably wants to encourage so the rest of us continue to enjoy the pool). my team seemed good on paper but didn't start out well so maybe it has turned a corner.

Three points separating the top four this week. We are still pretending to be unconcerned.

mkn, your profile page hurts my eyes...in a good way.

posted by garfield at 10:05 AM on November 21, 2003

oh yeah, and my run up the standings has been postponed indefinitely.

mkn's profile is an affront to humanity.

Any of you fuckers going to the World Cup next year?

posted by Succa at 12:25 PM on November 21, 2003

Back on top for a day, at least. Being in first place is nice, but just once I'd like to be in first when the update is posted. F-ing grum.

Hey mkn, how the heck did you do that to your profile page?

posted by dusted at 12:41 PM on November 21, 2003

Dusted, do you really think that should be common knowledge? The HTML that does that should be put in a box and sent to the same warehouse that they have the Ark of the Covenant in.

I would love to go to the World Cup next year. However, I have to pay a mortgage and make sure I can eat food at least twice a day, so I don't think I can afford the tickets. And mkn's beautiful profile page was accomplished by dumping style, header and background html tags inside the "blurb about you" section of the profile creation page. I've decided to alter mine in tribute to mkn. LEAF SOLIDARITY!

We could hold a contest to see who can make the ugliest profile page. It would take a lot of work to reach mkn's level of hideousness. Whoops! On preview, grum has started the competition already.

Uh, Grum ... if you watched the Leafs last night against the Oilers, at what point is Pat Quinn going to be shot?

posted by wfrazerjr at 02:31 PM on November 21, 2003

....and what is the deal with Sundin being pissed at Quinn over the Corson thing? What is the true deal in Leafland?

posted by garfield at 02:50 PM on November 21, 2003

More like LEAF SHAME right now. What a lousy, lousy roadtrip. As for the World Cup: when are the tickets going on sale, and how much? I'm still kicking myself for my blown chance at going to the Olympic finals, so I'd love to go to the WC.

Hey, as long as we're ahead of the Snes, all is well (yes, I know they have three games at hand, but still).

posted by mkn at 03:38 PM on November 21, 2003

mkn, can i ask a favor. can we chill with the prospect update. i don't think anyone minds reporting on a fantasy successes (savard, pitkanen, raycroft), but spilling the beans on as of yet unheralded players makes it difficult to out smart the opposition. its a subtle difference and its really not a big deal. (bascially, this is a veiled compliment of your research)

Garfield: to get the best prospects, check out who I dump and then pick them up a week later. Ty Conklin? Had him and then dropped him for Michael Leighton. Blech. Did the same thing in the Yahoo! football as well (Rudi Johnson). I'm my own worst enemy.

posted by grum@work at 06:42 PM on November 21, 2003

I suppose a thank you is in order for Ty, eh? I have done well with your refuse. Kubina was yours as well, right? How's Malik treating ya?

posted by garfield at 06:49 PM on November 21, 2003

Fine, I'll zip it -- even though 3 of those 5 have already been picked! *turns on TSN's "That's Hockey" and waits for the Fantasy feature*

sammy, so are you for bagging out tonight. :P (that's right. it's an emoticon. Bwahhahaha!) mkn, scoop away. On second thought, who am i to say anything, and it does add to spofi in general. (it just makes my job a little more of a challenge)
