Some mechanism, beyond the fantasy league LR threads, of general game results discussion. Could be a new LR category, a fourth section of the site (sections being LR, FP and columns), or change in FPP policy; the exact implementation is not significant in my mind. We saw plenty of this as FPPs during the baseball playoffs and ongoing (guilty) as threadjacks in the fantasy threads. Would be well matched with an increase in the number of displayed LR threads. Thanks much.

What are you envisioning -- a place where anyone could post the score and game story of any completed game to spark discussion of it? If so, there'd need to be a way to distinguish them from regular front-page links or columns, or else the game links would drown them out. A third section (or even a third front page) probably would be necessary.

We could go back to attempting to have weekly beat reports, which were a good catch-all for day to day game discussion. Unfortunately, since it's volunteer based, they're not always a definite given, but they served the purpose quite well. Oh, and where's our fantasy NBA thread?

SpoFi could alleviate some of the need for with a mechanism to keep older threads alive. I know this has been brought up here and on MeFi multiple times and I realize it's not completely on point, but I think it would be an invaluable resource for this site, much moreso than MetaFilter. If there was a good way to preserve lively threads, we might have avoided the number of Red Sox posts during the playoffs. Please note I'm not advocating "sticky" threads or any other disgusting show of onanism you want to mention. I'm stuck for a solution at the moment, but there has to be some way of doing this. Unfortuantely, any good solution would probably require some back-end work (which I'm willing to share in since I opened my mouth)-- some manner of storing and managing favorite threads. I suppose /.'s sidebar system might work as well.

Good Question. If no one else volunteers I suppose I could throw together NBA Week 1. But it will have to wait for my EPL update first. Lest someone be brave enough to stomach the Yahoo EPL update on their own. (Though I would be much obliged...)

rcade, (a) I was thinking more of a "This week's EPL/MLB/NFL/whatever single sport discussion" rather than posting specific games, which would get us many unnecessary threads. (b) yes, a third/fourth separate page would be great. Maybe a leftside box to compliment the Columns box on the front page, especially if the Pantheon could add the long request comments/new comments count feature to both sidebars. dano, perhaps I exaggerated about the existence of such a policy but seems to be an unwritten rule at least, though sometimes honored in the breach.

what's a threadjack? is that different than defecating on a thread? But I thought the division series and playoff posts were appropriate... and if a regular season game is noteworthy enough (record(s) set, incident occurs, questionable judgement) i thought that was okay too... as long as its not something mundane.

is it time to grumble about other feature requests floating out there? (insert ponies joke) until they are rejected they seem to be by and large active requests that are easy and open for addressing. this idea merits some consideration. just like the other half dozen. If i ever sound complainy (i think this is the 2nd time I have linked back to the feature request compendium I made) it is only because I am willing to help get things done.
