Any interest in getting together a sportsfilter pool for the world cup (ala the final four)? If so, I've created a group at the official world cup website. Group ID#: 21513. Group Name: world cup insomniacs. Group Password: sportsfilter. I look forward to matching my picks against some of the most thoughtful sports fans on the internet (or at least the most vocal).

Hell, I'll play. Although this type of thing usually makes me root for those that i chose vs. those that I'd like to see win. Let the mental chaos begin!

Well, just pick your favorite country to win it all then!

Can we bookmark this thread to talk shit to each other throughout the competition? I'm up for keeping it going throughout the cup. I'll probably be in last, but that's the best place to fling my dung at you all from :)

Good choice of a name. I'm in, although I know nothing about the teams in World Cup Soccer.

My picks are totally random. I have no idea at all.

Those world cup mascots look like neon gremlins. Creepy.

I winners/losers weren't that hard for me to pick in general - but the draws?? No bloomin idea..

I had the right idea with senegal and france. I picked a drw (but not an upset)... hopfully this bodes well for the rest of my picks.

'world cup insomniacs' *huh* I dunno. More US-centricism ;-) How about 'World Cup getting-up-at-sparrow-fart-in-the-mornings' for us yurrpeans?!?

Either way you're missing sleep.

and don't bitch too much i cola, at least you get really good game times in '06

i watched the game at 430 this morning. Can't believe I did it. And with the upset, my picks have totally gone to pot. I'm not sure France will even make it out of the group now. The way they played today doesn't inspire confidence. Zizou or no, they're in a world of trouble. They hardly put any pressure on Senegal except for those sporadic attempts that hit the woodwork. See you in the pool!

The scores are starting to be posted as group play is completed. I think group A messed up everyone.

Not just group A. Group D, too. I mean, Portugal could be out of the Cup! btw, trox, thanks for doing this. Makes the Cup more fun. Also, can't wait for the English Premier(e) League to start again. We should have a SpoFi fantasy league then, too.

worldcup2002, I would be up for a fantasy league, though I would be learning on the job so to speak. Am I the only one that picked the US (or Japan for that matter) to advance?

posted by trox at 10:36 AM on June 12, 2002

Nope. I picked US to top Group D, and Argentina 2nd (oops.) And, I'll set up the EPL Fantasy League on yahoo. It doesn't start until August, so start boning up!

Allright England! Now if someone can just knock out Brazil for me, I have a shot.
