There are times where I have nothing meaningful to contribute, but I like a comment and I wish I had a way to show that appreciation.
There doesn't need to be a running total of "likes".

YYM, and probably a majority of that discussion was sport-related.
My comment was a response to Grum's query two comments before yours, it just so happens we posted at the same time.
I think that it is generally accepted, however, that if a topic is even only tangentially sports related, then it is fair game to be discussed here. I feel some of the most thought provoking and interesting discussions that take place on this site often occur in threads that do not necessarily have sport as their focal points.

The reason this is getting so much prominence is because it could be the biggest sports story of the decade.
This. As the story evolves it only makes sense to continue to cover it here. It is easy to simply avoid the topic if you're sick of it.

When I'm about to post something smaller I wonder if one, this would be better in the huddle, and two, has it already been posted in the huddle
I just scan the front page. If it has already been posted in the huddle I'll take the flak. Besides, others like me may have missed the first link too.

I vote to keep the locker room. Fantasy sports, cd swaps, and other locker room posts would get lost on the front page quicker. Plus, this place has always been a nice haven from the unwashed masses.

I've also gotten the impression that SportsFilter tends to be a bit liberal leaning. However, I tend to avoid the topics such as the one in question where the main issue goes way beyond sports.

Mine is this:
Mexico's only runs came on a lucky break in the fourth inning when, with two on and an 0-2 count, Juan hit a ball into the gap that became lodged in a portion of the fence that prevented Hawaii's right fielder from retrieving it. As a result, the outfielder ran in place into the fence for over 20 seconds while Juan rounded the bases.
I cannot count the amount of times I have seen something similar to this happen in games that are much more modern than NES baseball.

Like Howard I am almost entirely a homer. I am a big fan of the Pistons, Lions, Tigers, and Red Wings. I don't live or die with any of them as much as I do with Michigan football, and I have had many a saturday ruined by a poor performance from the Wolverines.
However, I also have fringe allegiances, teams that I tend to root for for no apparent reason. I am a fan of the 49ers and Titans in the NFL and the Braves in the MLB, for no particular reason.

I don't see the harm in making more categories. Unless there is some coding hassle it does little more than make it slightly harder to scroll through the FPP topic list when posting a link.
