Someone remind me...are aluminum bats used at this level? I've played slow pitch softball, and seen pitchers drilled by balls they "never saw". Saw Mike play in St Louis...not a standout, but, hey, the bigs are the bigs. An unimpressibe appearance will now stay in my mind. Peace, Michael........

Guys like Ichiro, who play literally flawless outfield, hit a constant .300 and add luster to a money green-tinted game screw things up for the Chris Duncans of the world...the ones who field wall caroms better than grounders or line drives. Leave, Ichiro, while there's still time... Jesus!

Been to plenty of Illini games, and this PC crap is a joke. The administration collapsed over the Jeffersons, as in making' them, through post season action. Raising tuition doesnt give the Board it's 100% salary bump, so... As for the NCAA, they might as well call them the University of Illinois Smarmy-assed Susies...oops, I can't say that. All the Susans, Susies and Sues will be pissed... Also, the music that the Chief used to dance to (tom toms and that old TV Indian music- see Atlanta Braves) will now be, aw, screw it. NEVER MIND!!!

One of the sad things about this is that once(or IF)competition continues, the violence will also return. These are not fans, but people, and I use the term loosely, bent on violence and destruction. Funny, we view this as tragic, but turn away when there is looting, arson and shooting over the victory/loss of "the big game", in our own back yard. You watch these kids, as they look around, throw the rock or bottle, then look again, in preparation for whatever comes their way. Tragic, sick, disgusting...any and all of these fit. I'd say unacceptable...

A quick summary...Goose got goosed (again), Jose? No way! Albert is an interesting call...good numbers, but not a real "crowd" pleaser, and WHO does the voting? I'm most upset about the Jim Kaat snuff, AGAIN. 283 wins, and he unselfishly plays Whitey's role for some 120 games as a reliever, "for the team". Every so often, pretty boy and glamour NEED to step aside, letting REAL talent in! Just an opinion...

The views of THX-1138 and bperk are well taken, and I can see both points. While I'm not enamored with his appearance in Congress, "Big Mac" is being judged by the same "fans" whom ran to the TV for their nightly ESPN jones of "Mac vs Sammy", with that gleam of "something special" in their eyes. Look, Andro-like substances, "greenies" or whatever enhancers have been in the game for many years, and a staple to, probably, MANY more athletes than we'd like to believe. But McGwire hit a ton of homers as a skinny kid out of college, 44 I think, on his way to being named Rookie of the Year. The numbers kept rising, as he became one of the infamous "Bash Brothers", and then as he moved on to St. Louis, where he became a folk hero, with a street named after him near Busch Stadium. The thing that today's accusors fail to remember is that Mark NEVER asked for idol status, ALWAYS lecturing that "parents should be the heroes". Congress(you remember Congress...liars, cheats, thieves, abusers- the old man used to refer to them as guys with "balls the size of melons")"invited" Mac, Sammy, Raffi, et al, to a "discussion" about the new "world evil", steroids. A high schooler had commited suicide, supposedly from depression, induced by performance-inhancing drugs, and THEY wanted to know why. Lots of Congressional "face time" was afforded each of our "concerned" leaders, as they delved into how Major League sports could allow drugs to seep into our society, while (nod, nod, wink, wink) they schlepped autographs "for their kids", away from the Senate chambers. McGwire telling the world that "steroids is bad" is like a lung cancer patient telling his kids the evils of smoking, as he fires up a Camel Light. Bad for you, okay for me...I take care of me, you take care of you. Once again, it's SOMEONE ELSES fault that a kid goes off the edge. Wanna find the REAL bad guy in the kid's demise? Don't look at Mac, Raffi, Sammy, or even the corner "man". Look closer to home...coach, trainer, AD, teachers or doctor,the ones who're supposed to truly CARE, whom seem to find no issue with a sudden massive weight gain, accompanied by a rather ugly mood swing, passing it off as "just being a kid". Oh, yeah, we're missing some people here! The parents and, OOPS, THE KID HIMSELF need to be looked at, for why this change is SO necessary in his young life. Tom Skerritt's Duke Forester put it best, in M*A*S*H, when he explained, "It's God's will, or someone else's fault".

Anyone who thinks you "only need one out of three " to win need only review recent Cardinal history. Rogers is one heady SOB, and losing to him AT BUSCH could have led us down "that road", again. It wasn't the slugfest everyone predicted, but that's not a bad thing. Now the fun starts...paying for our success, with Soup, Jimmy Adventure and Weaver all free agents, and Carp at the door, accountant in tow. What do we do about Juan, Gooch, Belly and that walking Pepto Bismol ad, Dunc? Jocketty, in all his brilliance, should get as much sleep as he can, NOW, because those sleepless nights are only moments away. Funny, all I saw, pre-game one, was "Tigers in four, Tigers in three (yeah, well...) and Cards, no way, yada, yada, yada... Game one goes by the boards and, oops, StL up one nil. Funny, NO TALK from tigger nation. Game two: "Melted tootsie roll" on the palm but, in all honesty, seven good innings from "the Scrambler", a pissed-away Cardinal ninth...teams are knotted. STILL no talk from "Catmandu"... Game three, quiet early, Cards go up, Zum goes wild thang, Miner gets lucky, "Here we go loop-di-loop". Hmmmmm.....gotta wonder if that litter box needs some attention... What was that old saying...Kenny the STAIN, and pray for rain?

Has anyone seen anything about the uniforms? Are they going back to individual team colors, or are they sticking fans with updated copies of those "groovy" Buzz Lightyear rags. Man, I guess I'm old, but to me, there was NOTHING cooler than seeing the "birds on the bat" of the Cards, or the crisp white and blue of the Dodgers standing side by side down the base line in intros... Two of the smallest markets put on ONE HELLUVA show! Most hockey fans point to ex-players from their favorite teams, but who had as many exes as Blues fans? Rod Brin, Prongs, Hedican, "Dead" Weigt, Stillman...eight in all, I think. Somehow, the NHL's worst repped two of "the best". Congrats to ALL, on a monster 'Cup!!!
