SportsFilter NFL Playoff Pick 'Em Super Bowl 0x35 Edition

I'm not in the pick'em, but I will predict that:

- Matthew Slater will score a touchdown

- Something that has never happened to the Pats in the SB: Brady will get knocked out of the game

- Gostkowski will end up wishing that someone else had his job

With Porzingis gone, what else would the Knicks have to offer for AD other than the 1st overall pick in the 2019 draft? Even that is not a sure thing. There might be a play here to attract Kyrie from Boston, but unless they can offer more than a supermax deal, there's no way he would want to go there. Knicks have to rebuild completely, but there is little or nothing to build upon.

Not much more than a salary dump. The only way this makes any sense for the Knicks is if this is somehow a prelude to an AD deal. Still, it's hard to believe this was their best offer.

Irving's film career has fueled rumors that he will leave the Celtics at the end of this season and join his 'leadership mentor' Lebron in Los Angeles. This also involves a certain Mr. Davis, currently employed in New Orleans. Should this be the case, Irving's next film will be an espionage thriller about the recruiting of double agents.

He'll be comfortable shooting that film. With the earth having no curvature, even though the hotel is in Oklahoma, Irving should be able to look out an upper floor window and see Boston in the distance.

Maybe someday there'll be a story about a haunted Atlanta strip club hosted by Patrick Ewing.

Just finished moving 3 or so inches of snow out of the driveway and off of the walks. Still in my skiing long johns, so I am plenty warm for the exercise of making picks.

Wednesday, Jan. 30:

Do the Pacers without Oladipo have enough to handle the Lizards, er Wizards? Washington has lots of problems, basketball included. Indiana by 8

If ever there was a pick that could be called a coin flip, it is this one. 10th and 11th in the power rankings and a good defense against a good offense make this anyone's game. Portland by 11

Thursday, Jan. 31:

Bucks have maintained their excellence throughout the season, while Raptors have been in a slow decline. Perhaps it's merely reversion to the mean, perhaps there are problems. Milwaukee by 9

76ers are another team that just doesn't quite put things together despite having a lot of good pieces. I watched Warriors last week, and the difference between them and the very good teams is quite pronounced. Golden State by 7 SLAM

Friday, Feb. 1:

Celtics might be without Kyrie Irving (left hip) for this one, but with help from 2 unexpected scorers (Smart and Baynes) they were able to handle Nets on Monday. The Knicks? They are still the Knicks. Boston by 6

Nuggets have lost a bit of their glitter, but Rockets too have fizzled some. Houston matches up well against Nuggets. Houston by 13

Saturday, Feb. 2:

Who will be on the court for Lakers? Will Lebron be back? Will they put together a trade package that includes a 20% share of Disney and get Davis? Doesn't matter, they're in Oakland against Warriors. Golden State by 17 SLAM

Sunday, Feb. 3:

Bad news, I can't make it to this one. I have things to do at church that will keep me there from about 6:30 AM to about 2:30. Good news, my son and his friend have the tickets, and I am sure they will enjoy it. Celtics will need to put together an effort like that against Warriors, and make a few less mistakes in order to win this one. Boston by 4

The stuff will become more unstable over time

Three years back some ladies at the lake found an interesting shaped class container with a bright green liquid in it while picking saskatoons. One decided it would look nice on her cabin shelf she brought it home on the back of her ATV. Early the next summer an old timer came to visit and knew exactly what the jar contained - liquid explosive (I believe some form of nitro) used during the railway expansion back some 60 years ago or more. The entire end of the lake was evacuated while the bomb folks came and safely removed the pretty jar.

Today, January 28, is a date that will live in infamy, at least for 31 other NFL teams. It was 19 years ago today that Bill Belichick was hired as the head coach of the New England Patriots. Here is a photo of him, a few years before he was hired, obviously plotting ways to get a competitive advantage over the opposition.

It doesn't matter how long explosive ordnance has been lying around; it's still dangerous. The stuff will become more unstable over time, and sometimes the slightest bump can set it off. Every time I have been on a military base for a job I have had a safety briefing before I can actually get to work. The first thing they talk about is unexploded ordnance, and the message is get away from it and report it immediately. This guy is lucky that the back end of his vehicle is not resembling a swiss cheese today.
