Sabres 1: – Senators 4 (neigh)
Detroit 2Anaheim 3

The Detroit link is a dud. That game was brutal. Game tying goal with less than a minute left in the period. Leave it to Pavel Datsyuk to get called for a penalty right at that time.

NBC's announcers really ragged on Franzen for not clearing the puck. It would have been nice if the Wings had won and it didn't matter but what can you do.

What a bummer. Lilja scores the only Red Wing goal, then turns it over in OT for the loss. Talk about your highs and lows. The Ducks were the more aggressive team most of the game, and their hard work paid off. Damn.

Excellent save attempt by Hasek on the overtime winner! It's one of those times when, should the puck/shot actually happen to hit him, everyone would be babbling about what a fantastic save it was. What it looked like to me was the guy was completely overwhelmed, and if he would have had one more moment he would have left the net completely in an effort to get out of the way.

wings in seven all the way.

Anaheim's goalie,Giguerre(sic) has been beyond fantastic and is the main reason the Ducks are leading the Wings in the West finals. I see a lot of stars on Annaheim but most are getting long in the tooth. But in the playoffs what seems to matter is who is hot right now. I'm pulling for Detroit burt they've got a steep hill to climb.

I have to say bein as I am a Blues fan I can't cheer for the Red Wings however I am glad it is them and not San Jose. However I have to give credit where credit is due and the Wings are doin pretty good but sometimes I think they forget they are playing hockey. I am sure all teams do it but you will see them play hard for 2 periods and then just forget that they can still lose.. Anaheim seems to be a pretty good team and so far this whole series has been a nail biter. It will be interesting to see who takes it all the way this year.

Hockey's a very funny sport. It always seems like when a team has opportunity after opportunity to put a game away like the Red Wings did yesterday (all the powerplays and two 5-on-3s, and the powerplay in OT), and that team fails to cash in on any of those opportunities, the "hockey gods" always rise up and make something bad happen like Lilja's turnover for the game winner for Anaheim.

I find it hard to cheer for the Sens because at least a couple of their fans are complete assholes. You know, these ones. See? Not all Canadians are skirt wearing peaceniks. We'll fuck you up. And your lady friend. You have been warned.

I'm pretty sure that every hockey team has its share of bloodlustful followers who show up for the fights and the beer, and who wouldn't think twice about assaulting a rival fan who's gently taunting them after a playoff loss. It's barbarian, it's disgusting, and it has no place in any society, but it's the vein that the NHL has been marketing to, and it's in no way specific to the Senators.

That's a very Ottawaesque response. Straight from the House of Commons. Soft, limp and predictable. To be fair, though, I'm sure the Calgary reaction to the fan would have been "Show us your tits." In Montreal - well, they'd never bring brooms. They'd bring a detestable sense of righteousness, smug with the knowledge that of course there'd be a sweep. The broom is unnecessary and gauche. 25 banners do the better talking. In Vancouver the reaction would be to immediately search for pizza, snacks or more weed. Actually, that's how any crisis in handled. In Toronto - Nothing. No reaction whatsoever. What are the playoffs? (Either that or the fan would be talking to empty seats since we'd all be in the platinum club, getting the $12 prime rib sandwich.)

Weedy, my specific words were "the vein that the NHL has been marketing to". Your examples all deal with Canadian teams. The NHL doesn't market to Canada. Duh!

25 banners do the better talking. Actually, we've been stuck at 24 for almost 15 years now. It's starting to hurt a little.

Renee Luck, a visitor from Buffalo who was with a group of seven Sabres fans, was reportedly punched after making a joking reference to the Senators' loss to Buffalo. They call you Lady Luck. But there is room for doubt Tonight you have a very unladylike way of passing out You're at this game with me And behind us is a lush Renee, before the evening is over he just might give you the brush He might forget his manners O'er Senators today and so the best that we can do is pray. Luck be a lady tonight Duck if you get in a fight Puck lovin' dudes aren't too steady to begin with Luck be a lady tonight. Don't let the gentleman's fist Strike where it Ottawa missed He'll see you leave with dimples that you didn't come with Duck or you're gonna be pissed. A lady doesn't get her ass kicked It isn't fair, it isn't nice A lady shouldn't wonder if some stupid goon Will knock her right onto the ice. Now we're on a MediVac flight Because they punched out your light They'll give you back all the teeth you came in with Luck be a lady Who doesn't look like McIlhargey Luck be a lady tonight.

Can it really be true? The Ducks are playing for the Cup? Somebody slap me, I must be dreaming.

Well, it happened just 4 years ago. And they had a very good season. Nobody's really surprised here. I'm happy for you, though.

Third time in a row the charm for a Canadian team to bring Stanley home? I sure hope so.
