Hooray for the 'stache!: Salvatore Frank Fasano, Toronto Blue Jays catcher and career .219 hitter, is getting a Rory Fitzpatrick-like push as a write-in candidate for the 2007 MLB All-Star Game. Who's behind this nefarious plot? Why, it's none other than the new Canadian branch of Sal's Pals!

One small vote for Sal, one giant vote for Salkind.

Nothing but a popularity contest if the fans are allowed to vote...Go back to the players picking the all-stars and nothing like that would likely happen again. Remember when the St.Louis fans picked almost there entire lineup. The only think worst then having the fans pick the lineup for the all-stars is having the sportswriters pick it. Petty Petty Petty and most that are now on the track know jack about baseball history. All the ones that knew what was up are gone and buried...

How much historical perspective do you really need to vote for the All-Star team in any one given year? I'm all in favor of people knowing their baseball history and appreciating players who excelled in eras whose stats don't look as impressive today. But can't we pretty much look at the stats this season and see who's best for this year's team? Also, players have their own biases and make their own mistakes too. They were handing out Gold Glove Awards based on historical reputation and popularity for years in their own right.

How much historical perspective do you really need to vote for the All-Star team in any one given year? I would prefer none. Seems like fans insist on voting for what players did 10 years ago.

In honour of Sal, I've cut the beard down a bit: Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket ... and the daughter apparently doesn't approve: Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Frighteningly enough, I planned to ditch it, but I keep getting compliments on it -- including from the wife. I think it looks a little 'Starsky & Hutch' for my tastes.
