The Blue Jackets take off MacLean -- who's next?: The NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets have fired general manager Doug MacLean, whose teams never came closer than 19 points to the playoffs in his six-year tenure. Who's in line for that job and who should be listening for footsteps?

It's about time they got rid of MacLean - he has made a lot of questionable draft picks and traded off a ton of decent talent - eg Mike Sillinger. Ok, well, not a ton, but some. I mean, they seem to be so impatient with this thing that they don't let the players stay together long enough to mesh. I've been to a lot of their home games, and several of the draft picks - Picard for example, have been very disappointing. Their other moves haven't been very good either - the acquisition of Foote was terrible. He's washed up, he can't skate, he doesn't fit in the new NHL. Fedorov has been pretty much a wash too. If I were Rick Nash, I would want to get out of Columbus as soon as possible. Before they fired Gallant, it seemed like everybody in the front office was a Prince Edward Island crony of MacLean's from back in the day or something. And don't even get me started about Hitchcock.

Another fine example of authentic frontier gibberish.

I believe they're called the Blue Jackets as a reference to the uniform of the Union Soldiers in the American Civil War. It has nothing to do with insects as far as the team is concerned.

Who's next? Bob Harley should be fired... out of cannon for going back to Lehtonen instead of Hedberg. I figure he's got to be D-U-N. Lemaire? Probably safe - but aren't these guys tired of decent regular seasons of stifling defense punctuated by the occassional first round exit? Ah, I probably just hate Lemaire too much. Bah - orrrrrr - ing.
