Hidden: Crocodile Hunter passes: To me croc wrestling is a sport and he was one of the best and will be missed.

I always admired Steve's guts and his extensive knowledge of animals. He will be remembered...Incidentally, I have been married to a woman named Sheila for many years and can readily understand why he would refer to a female crocodile by that name.

To me croc wrestling is a sport Aw, what a croc! Yeah, I guess jumpin' off a horse and bulldoggin' a croc is a pretty tough deal, (considerin' they ain't got no horns), but, in Irwin's case, it seems like he tempted fate once too often. It's a wonder one of them critters hasn't done him in by now....

I was hoping someone could find a way to work this into a thread. I admired his guts and his stand on the environment. RIP and best wishes to his wife Terri and the kids, Bindi and Bob.

He was entertaining -good at what he did. As they say stuff happens. He knew the risks and continued doing what he obviously liked to do. Hang around a bit, someone else will show up to "thrill" us once again.

Steve Irwin was nothing if not entertaining and likeable. He will be missed. This is one of those deaths that seems to be foreordained. That is, some higher power decided that it was time, so Irwin had to go. From what I read, had the barb from the ray hit him almost anywhere else, he would be alive, although likely quite sick. As it is, the barb hit him under the rib cage and pierced his heart. What an unlikely and unfortunate happenstance.

If you don't think croc wrestling isn't a type of sport then you don't think calf roping is. If it is just something to do, I dare you to go do it. Steve Irwin was a good man who educated us and did a very dangerous job and indeed treated it as sport if you ever watched. The loss of Steve will leave a gap. Farewell Steve.

As a fan of the Discovery Channel, and a huge fan of Steve Irwin, I was saddened at his passing. He was a colorful, funny, and yes, a risk taking man. He brought the wildlife of Australia into the homes of millions of Americans. He had a gift, no doubt! He died doing what he loved. My heart goes out to his wife Terri, and his children Bindi Sue and Bob. I, for one, will miss him.

Sad. Not sport though. Just because something is dangerous or hard does not make it sport. He wasn't competing against anyone else. He may have thought he was challenging himself, but there was no score, no clock and no challengers. Condolences to his family and those who loved him. He has a young child (who thankfully didn't get eaten when his dad dangled him in front of a croc) and his family must be devastated, even if they knew he lived life on the edge.

Sad. Not sport though. Couldn't agree more. What happened to Steve was very sad, but really not related to sports, or to sportsfilter for that matter. I admire Steve in some ways, but when you mess with natures deadliest creatures, eventually it'll catch up to you, and it did. R.I.P Steve, best wishes to the family.

Okay, so you are saying that he isn't competing against the croc when wrestling it. It is like saying bull riding isn't a sport. May he rest in peace.
